  1. None of this race-bending talk would even be happening if this came out in 2014 or 2012 with all these other Snow White reimaginings.
  2. I think WW84 could have challenged the WB/DC opening weekend records. I don't remember what the schedule for 2020 was supposed to be before COVID, but yea, it would not be leggy, WoM would still be really mixed.
  3. I think there's something even more compelling here; Monica idolized Carol as her cool auntie figure and a hero she looked up to, until Carol a) was abducted and brainwashed into a Kree soldier and b) even when she turned to her senses and reunited with her and Maria, she stayed mostly off Earth, protecting the Galaxy until she needed to come back for Thanos. They even hinted this film will explore how many times Carol has really visited since the 90s. Monica was already upset that Carol wasn't there for Maria when she died, even though Carol wasn't snapped away like she was. This builds to very interesting drama between these characters. On the other hand, Kamala is a teen girl who has no reason not to idolize Captain Marvel, whom she has never met before this film. She's an icon for helping save Earth from Thanos as far as Kamala is concerned. She's teaming up with her hero. Carol is no longer a hero for Monica, there's unaddressed trauma between them. Really interesting contrast between her and Kamala.
  4. Forrest Gump is 142 minutes longer than it needed to be.
  5. Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Hawkeye and Moon Knight all either needed less or more episodes or just a better structure; they really felt the weight of approaching these shows like long movies. Ms. Marvel also did to an extent, but that should have just been a 2 hour movie either way. I think WandaVision, Loki, What-If and (especially) She-Hulk worked the best with the TV show medium, although Loki is really the only one which can really have potential as a multiple-seasons long running show.
  6. Dar-Benn looks really cool, her and Hela are how I'd look if I were a Marvel villain.
  7. Damn the fact alone that the first film made near $300m in China is quite telling on how this one will fare in comparison on the global scale. Crazy how Venom and Aquaman did this so close to one another back in 2018! For Venom, China actually outgrossed the US as its biggest market by like $60m, makes the performance of the 2nd film look even better considering that had no China (first one is at around $590m with no China, 2nd film did ~$510m with equal gross in the US). I believe Aquaman still sits at around $850m if you take out China, but I do expect it to drop by ⅓ in several markets... so we'll see.
  8. Good thing this is coming immediately after Loki season 2 instead of the Skrull show because damn it looks great.
  9. It opened 20% less than its direct predecessor, which is a record for a MCU follow up. Even if Vol.2 hit a domestic ceiling for the Guardians as a team, that's still a notable drop, even more so when taking into account inflation since 2017.
