  1. DRAGON 2 can earn between $700MM WW to $800M. No doubt. But I think fans of this movie wants it to do $1B WW. The original is really, uhhh, original. Very fresh, exciting kind of animation that H'wood should invest in more. Fox, with APES sequel, XMEN & MUSEUM plus EXODUS, and MAZE RUNNER & SECRET SERVICE could score good mid-range numbers, should do quite well this year.
  2. CAP2 is the perfect superhero movie but $400M is very unlikely. He doesn't fly, he doesn't shoot deadly beam from his hands, he doesn't have Stark's wit, Batman's grim reaper persona. I say with zero competition he could do a low $300M.
  3. $7M is OK, $8M will be nice
  4. China number is very encouraging. But after 2nd weekend, THOR 2 WW still leads by $20M. But THOR 2 had Brazil opening early. All in all, CA2 would end up around THOR2 WW number. Sorry folks, looks like $700M is still a dream till 2016.
  5. If it follows THOR 2 pattern, CATWS will end up with $225M - $230M. But if the report that it also draws older audience outside the comic book fanboys, this may end up closer to $250M and beyond. But $300M is very unlikely. No HULK. No Hawkeye. And no Tony.
  6. THOR 3 will always clean up in Europe. China responded well to No. 2 too. So the Thunder God is fine.
  7. $100M dream is over but the waking hour is not that bad....
  8. Surprising to me. I guess the stereotype that Russians are godless or non-religious is wrong.
  9. The Russo Bros did great with WINTER SOLDIER but I do wish Disney/Marvel would hire a different director for Capn next adventure. Cap America is one franchise that needs sprucing up visually. WINTER SOLDIER is an excellent Marvel movie but the action while pulse pounding, is not interestingly photographed. The whole look of the movie has that TV-movie dullness (outside of HBO brilliant shows of course). But I don't want to drown the $90M+ opening celebration here so....I would like to quickly recede into the background....now.....
  10. Yes, GoG will surprise in Russia. I see it.
  11. I feel that THOR 2 moves along nicely from set piece to set piece but I hardly remember anything that is memorable. It is a mildly entertaining comic book movie done with a little more intriguing plotting than your typical superhero movie. But saving the world from another fantastical armageddon is hardly capable of raking my pulse. from CA2 is very real, and very chilling to me, and therefore far more intriguing to me. Plus the many hand-to-hand fights (seen in the trailers) ground this superhero to a more realistic feel. Chris Evans is a little too perfect as CA in CA1 & TA, but I think he is settling into the role very well by now. And of course, now he just wants to be a director.
  12. Funny how an emerging market in Southeast Asia with huge potential (a population of 240M, almost 80% of US population) is generally ignored by Box Office Mojo. A lot of box office figures are not reported from this country.
  13. THOR 2 opened to $109M in 36 territories. Not apple to apple but it's a bit lower than I expect. It needs to do much better domestic duty in order to match THOR 2 numbers WW.
  14. KFP2 is East Asian in terms of thematic materials. Unless it is Marvel, giant robots or Tom Cruise dangling on the side of Burj Dubai, Koreans prefer their own films.
  15. How do you explain the popularity of TA? That one made $880M, some people outside US must watched that one.
  16. Me too. Frustrating, because it coulda been one of Ridley Scott's great ones.
