yeah, I know of this, but somehow I just don't find it "solid"? like every 2016 high profile movie, we seem to know each will definitely be released, but not this one~~"
BH6 made more than Interstellar in the US as well, nothing is wrong.
Interstellar has a very smart OS release schedule; in most markets there's no strong new release competition, or no competition at all. like in Taiwan, a month old Gone Girl is its only competition.
it opened very well in Taiwan, almost doubled Gravity OW. behind AoE, Winter Solider, DoFP, Godzilla, and EoT...
Inception is Nolan's highest grossing movie in Taiwan, and it's not going to change any time soon it seems.
Interstellar's OW # is good enough to thwart the smugness of Nolanites a bit briefly, but not bad enough to push Nolan out of Hollywood director A list.
I think "leg" comes with territories. High profile Hollywood movies usually don't have legs in many countries; most money were earned within the first two weeks. Legs are mostly grown from lower profile films which develop good wom. like Lucy and Life of Pi.
Johnnie To does everything; he's probably the most versatile and proliferate quality HK director ever.
he's just more famous for his action/gang flicks for the international cinema scene.
back in early 2000s, his romantic comedies with Andy Lau and Sammi Cheng were insanely popular.
there may also be a sampling issue: which forums you check? on these forums, there are many Nolanites and pro-Nolan posters. some of them tend to be vocal, creating the sense of consensus. also, those who're indifferent to Nolan's works probably still don't see the movie to form any opinion yet.
there's also scheduling; if it were Fast 6, not WWZ vs. Monster University, the result would probably be different.
and Fast 6 did beat Epic, which probably isn't qualified as "well-reviewed" animation feature?
crowd reports of this thing have been all over the place. mixed wom with certain degree of indifference, is my general impression.
leg status uncertain, we'll see.
L, how things have changed, not long before, any boxoffice comparison between Nolanstellar and Prometheus would be ridiculed, but now it's debating that Nolanstellar actually has the upper hand.
Interstellar's # is the number that Nolanites deserve.
BH6, nice bump from Wreck-It Ralph, some critics and fans caught up in the success of Frozen and had misguided expectation,
