That's a huge maybe though. I'm gonna say that if Apes does take the summer it will be because of fantastic WOM rather than a huge OW. I just can't see it opening huge when so many other higher profile films couldn't get past the 100 barrier (and yes I'm including TransFudgers: Age of Deception too).
There's something about it that makes me feel an overwhelming sadness that is one of the most extreme and instant bursts of emotion any piece of music gives me.
Most of those movies weren't making much that weekend though (2008). The only movie makig a lot was Hancock and it only increased 39% that Saturday.
Anyways that was 6 years ago when legs were far better than today. I told you all TF4 was dropping 65%+ this weekend and not getting more than a 2.4x multi. It's pretty much impossible in the summer these days to go much above that with a big opener unless WOM is out of this world.
Geez, Maleficent's legs are starting to get into the range reserved for the absolute best received films. If it keeps this up it could hit as high as 250. I honestly can't think of the last time such a bad movie has had such phenomenal legs though. Really tragic this is the one movie of the summer to get the awesome WOM.
Lord have mercy. If I have to see people legitimately comparing Frozen to a goddamn masterpiece of cinema, art, time, and space that is The Lion freakin' King then I'm officially giving up on humanity.
Pretty much agree. As much as it pains me to say this the general public just obviously had no interest in the movie. I don't know if doing much differently would have helped. I mean it's a fantastic film just like its predecessor with no direct competition, and yet that's not doing squat for its legs so I think that speaks volumes about just how much the public apparently didn't care about a sequel to the first.
Decent jump for TF4. Falls right in the range most of the movies increased on Thursday back in '08 (20-30%). 34m for the weekend would be my guess with that Thursday continuing to use '08 4th holds.
Yeah, I wasn't even sure who he was talking about when I read that post. Stone and Lawrence on the other hand are massive household names, and Kendrick has a nice little following too after the cult hit Pitch Perfect was.
