  1. It's a three way battle between Paranorman, Frankenweenie and Wreck It Ralph now. Either way, a good year for Disney as they'll most likely have all three of their animated features nominated. Last time that happened, sort of, was Treasure Planet, Lilo & Stitch and Spirited Away. Though SA of course was only distributed by them.
  2. wow.Hahaha, my God that's harsh. I mean, I don't like her either, but to call her an ugly dog. What the hell did she do to him? Other than star in Elementary. Which is retarded.
  3. If they nominate Adele and Mumford and Sons they would be morons for not trying to get them to perform. Those are arguably the two biggest names in music right now and they could boost ratings. Plus, it would be a fantastic show as both are incredible live.
  4. That is just hysterical. I'm sure all the sci-fi stuff was all his invention, but he can't pretend as though the story he came up with was in any way, shape or form an original story. I could literally predict everything that was going to happen. Hell, South Park's 'Dances With Smurfs' came out a month before the actual film and they recognized it for what it was. The same old story we'd seen a billion times. I enjoyed Avatar, but not for its story.
  5. Disney is opening this against The Hobbit in the Netherlands.Christmas will save it from total disaster, but still... what were they thinking?
  6. I'm not counting Sally Field out yet. Her performance in Lincoln looks to service as a reminder that she's one of the all-time greatest actresses. Also, she won the Oscar both times she was previously nominated. And she just took home the Film Critics Circle award. Also, I'm kind of rooting for her. Anne is just so desperate. She should do a Judy Garland biopic. Then we'll talk oscar.I'll probably be wrong.
  7. I enjoyed Cloud Atlas mostly for its ambition and brilliant editing. But it's deeply flawed in terms of tone and writing.
  8. 10 nominations for Brave and Wreck-It Ralph, while only six for Rise of the Guardians. Even Hotel Transylvania had more nominations, so Guardians is pretty much out now. I still find it difficult to tell if the Annies could be considered a precursor to the best animated feature Oscar. But when taking a closer look they had it wrong three times: 2006: Cars instead of Happy Feet 2008: Kung Fu Panda instead of WALL-E 2010: How to Train Your Dragon instead of Toy Story 3. In defense of 2010, Disney did not do any submissions that year due to the growing financial influence Dreamworks had within the organization (as evidenced by their 2008 victory), so that was why Toy Story 3 lost. The reason this went more or less unnoticed was of course because Dragon was Dreamworks' best film to date and even if Katzenberg hadn't rigged the votes, it would have still been a worthy winner. Anyway, both Disney and Pixar rejoined ASIFA-Hollywood in 2011 after their 2010 withdrawal. There's been an overhaul in the judging process and a reorganization that gave more weight to studio representatives. Last year's winner was Rango at both the Annies and the Oscars. So it's a fairly safe bet that the winner this year will also take home the Oscar.
  9. It flopped epically here in The Netherlands. And with The Hobbit and Wreck-It Ralph opening soon there's no hope for legs.It was barely advertised by the way. Just a few horrible TV spots and it's not playing at night at my local theater, only morning and afternoon shows. That's a sign that it was dumped by the studio. There was no effort whatsoever. This is exactly what Disney does when they dump something (Winnie the Pooh, Meet the Robinsons, Home on the Range).
  10. I love that they always bring the numbers of the movies no one could care less about first.
  11. I love that Zemeckis would do it with hand drawn animation if they get the green light. Big plus.
  12. LOL. That is right on target.I'm curious about Disney's lineup though. We know about six upcoming Pixar projects, but Disney is keeping things tightly under wraps. Frozen and Big Hero 6 have been announced, but no images or anything has been released so far. And beyond that it's all vague. A mysterious project that will use the technique in Paperman and a rumored sequel to Wreck-It Ralph. Not much more.Hope we'll see some announcements in January. Most of all a trailer for Frozen.
  13. Agreed. And if Seth McFarlane has any vote, music will definitely be a big part of the show. I'm confident he'll do a singing monologue of some sort as well.
  14. Pac-Man I'm not sure about. But Bowser and Sonic are iconic enough and still featured in many, many games played by kids all over the world today.
  15. Would like to see a breakdown of the weekend results. It's pretty good considering it didn't open in any new markets. I see this doing well over Christmas.
  16. It is pretty amazing that Pixar continues to deliver the #1 animated film each year. And Brave sits comfortably above the competition.
  17. lol. I actually think it looks more appealing to the older crowd than Parental Guidance. And as messed up as Streisand looks, nothing comes close to the catastrophe that is Bette Midler's zillionth facelift. God she's ugly.
  18. Stop making things up. Katzenberg was not fired, he left Disney in september of 1994 and his fight with Eisner was settled out of court for a LOT of money. And give me a break. He only helped Lion King succeed by not interfering in the creative process. Here's a little history lesson on what Katzenberg thought about The Lion King:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ygz1BMtYmC4Did you know he also wanted to cut 'Part of Your World' out of The Little Mermaid because a little boy dropped his popcorn during a test screening? Glen Keane had to fight to keep this iconic scene in the film. True story.Jeffrey Katzenberg wouldn't recognize a good film if it slapped him in the face. I have tremendous amounts of respect for the creatives at DWA, but Katzenberg can just go away for all I care.
  19. I can't even begin to tell you how much this pleases me. Katzenberg has been shopping this film around all kinds of ridiculous Hollywood awards making people think it's the greatest thing in the world. He hasn't learned a thing from his final days at Disney. If he wants awards he needs to learn to recognize what a great film looks like. I doubt he saw the success of HTTYD coming. But then again this is the guy that thought The Lion King would fail because it was terrible.
