  1. Under the first deal even the then newly at Sony arriving ~ studio boss had no say at all in the MCU movies, under the new deal Marvel pays and gets 25% There is also talks about the possibility of Holland‘s Spidey crossing over to Sony‘s Marvel movies, the wordings make it IMHO very clear that Holland‘s Spider Man belongs to the MCU It‘s a special case, there are always exceptions from rules
  2. Here I disagree to the strongest I was the last time in a cinema in 2019 (me having gotten 3 jabs, still wont go). Most of the people in my circle of friends also still do not go. Brother the same Son & friends went only once during summer since it started Yes, a lot of the GA do go if its possible, but there also a lot who still wont go.
  3. hello too yupp, too much work, also not going to the movies for security reasons, lessened ‚the need‘ to jump into the board, plus other reasons my time/energy… didn‘t allow a relaxed visit.
  4. I had a few for best… lists, but those where done during high pressure times, so it was a combination of a cool down at work (and other places), and the tag 😉
  5. haha, I am older than him (I am in my 6th decade, he is not) Soooo, what‘s up beside it being the Batman opening weekend? Wasn‘t in a cinema in ages (live in one of the worst counties… and so on)
  6. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hercules_(Marvel_Comics) Hercules is since 1965 a Marvel character. He belonged to eg the Avengers at least for some time, had his first own series in 2008. Belonged also to The Defenders, Heroes for Hire,.... There is a comic series were the Pantheon gods fight against the Elders Also a series where ‚someone‘ kills eg all gods present in the Pantheon, eg Hercules is among those who find the dead and dying sister Another series has the Pantheon fighting against the Skrulls (Conan too belongs to the Marvel comic world with him being at a time in modern times too....) There are also gods of the Egyptians, Maya, Hawaiian/Polynesian, Japanese, Mesopotamian, Inca, AUS aboriginal, Hindu, Slavic, Philippine, (fantasy gods) Hyborian, Inuit, Jumala gods (Finnish), Native American, (fictional, Lovecraft) Cthulhu / Old Ones, Roman (see Olympian Gods, overlap https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olympians_(Marvel_Comics) , Turkic/Mongolian, Aztec, Celtic, Formore (Irish), African, Chinese, Yazatas (proto-Iranian language...), Yondu’s god, (fictional) Shi’ar, Skrull gods (obviously also...), and Old Gods of Zenn-La (Chaos War),.... Solo gods for: Dire Wraith god (see Inhumans, Dire Wraith created by Celestials), Badoon god (for the males), the god of the Symbiots, the god of the Druffs, god of the Carmondian (Captain Marvel), Plasmagenian god (Avengers Celestial Quest), Queega god, = nearly all of those had at least one encounter with either Thor or Hercules or both of them or are in the Thor & Hercules: Encyclopaedia Mythologica There is also a long list of deities.... Gorr the God Butcher kills quite a few of the listed ones
  7. I already answered that To mini-series,.... the influence of a director is usually even less for a series than for an average movie. As much bigger the budget, as much mire a pre-existing franchise, the impact of a director, the possibilities.... decreases more and more. Not in every case, but more often than not. In the sum you seem to judge mostly in black and white, missing the many many shades of grey in between, also way too early on, dismiss / ignore every point for maybe adjusting to a less ‚one person is at fault’ judgement, and use a wording I‘d consider not balanced.
  8. I am not even sure if I like it or not yet, I only have seen as a sum ~ half of the first episode yet, so its again interesting to see how you ‚give blame‘ without even asking, jumping to conclusions too fast. Its not the director to blame if eg higher ups change things without asking (eg see one of the Wolverine movies) or even take over parts of all of the edit (see eg 13th Warrior), or if scenes are missing for reasons not in the hands of the director (eg if an actor dies or gets pregnant or can‘t travel or ends in jail or...., or a pandeminc is changing lots of details, or money promised is not there, equipment or filmed scenes get lost/stolen/broken/mishandled by customs, or...) or if a project is made for order, means the real creatives, the ones with an impacting say are other people. I didn‘t brought it up based on what you criticized, I brought it based on how you worded your ‚critique‘, judgement.... edit: forgot to add: to dismiss another county‘s award system as unimportant again... beside that: won 6 times, nominated 5 times the Director‘s Guild of Canada is IMHO not ‚an unimportant award‘ = feels very judgmental at best = has nothing to do about the mini-series, just about how it gotten worded.
  9. if you think that director is the sole reason for the problems of the Dark World than I am not surprised about your ways to lay blame before looking into or forgetting lots of details of its background To dismiss another’s country’s A\awards in that way does not help to improve the prejudice (or worse) impression I got.
  10. Not disagreeing, but maybe I have another general approach, like am more used to wait longer for the finale or...? See I feel often season one of a series needs time to get in the rhythm of the story or...? So many behind the scenes influence at the beginning, needs time to get into the flow. This case: How to edit on the same level if eg the director is in CAN, the editor is somewhere else, and scenes planed are missing or done in a changed version not of the same level (crew smaller, other locations, not available cast at certain locations, maybe even eg staff getting sick, ....) based on COVID? Yes, there is video conference, but I think the discussions during eg a break, the sound-boards, the bigger team around them,... are missing, less natural. Its still more time regulated, less spontaneous to a degree. Plus in my POV a director who does a made for/to/on order TV-series / mini-series is usually rather less free for expressing a vision than eg a huge budget used movie director, or? Not the only reasons why I‘ll wait and see the finale first AND will try to find out a bit of a background till I give my rating. There were even movies I only rated after eg 5y, as only then I finally found some details I felt early on something else might have played into the end-product Ridley Scott is a good example, see eg the difference between Kingdom of Heaven theatrical version vs the still missing scenes of the director’s cut and the reasons for those 2 different versions that I’d rate with 3-4 steps out of 10 in between the versions. I like him, but only watch in general movies the story is about something I am interested in, means I have not watched all of his movies (there is no multi titles director I have seen all of his/her work, same counts for actors,... too, even the most beloved ones) I’ll give for now every project made/finalized during the pandemie a benefit of the doubt
  11. director is eg a BAFTA winner, also a 7-times CAN Director‘s Guild winner and more. Probably more achievements than quiet a lot of others in the industry, or eg here. Personally I‘ll wait till 1. the series is finalized and 2. I know more about any project‘s background details in general and even more so during a pandemic till I look for someone to ‚blame‘. In especially in a made on order project in general, and agan in especial for a TV series / mini-series
  12. Agree mostly but think at first there might be a surge for especially a few probable blockbusters, for the hunger and more to be able to enjoy again and so on. Then it can go different ways: eg if the probable blockbusters are really enjoyable, hit the right Zeitgeist too,... it might hold longer or even recover far more than I am afraid can happen also, especially if said probable blockbusters are not that great, not hitting the Zeitgeist, are eg depressing, too near to the reality people want to escape from, or eg based on a not happy ending less ~ rewatch-friendly for at least a part of the audience. If that happens early on into the recovery phase repeatedly, then I think cinema numbers in general might get down more fast than some seem to think its possible. The virus created in my POV a situation where a small additional drop can have an impact during the reopening/business recovery phase, but depending on see eg happy end or... it is not a given to have an big impact. Also the reactions might differ a lot depending on how long and/or how often a country was eg in lockdown, or if eg exemptions for eg family watch ‘parties’ in a cinema were allowed or not, eg China had only one wave, as such a far shorter total restriction of cinemas, the alternative entertainment might have had less of an impact to eg a country with months over months of lockdowns and no real social live during big parts of the last year. And tons of variants in between.
  13. is not near of what is needed to get cautious people back to the cinemas agree, only not sure inhowfar for complete Europe the situation will be back to 100% capacity in July as no one knows about maybe needed additional shots for variants... for now I think they are considering the worldwide situation and possible developments more than even some of us do Not only for the virus, lockdowns, not being allowed to open for more like eg 25% capacity,... but also for the refusal to screen it by some chains based on / for the double approach of the studios, like a bit of a muscle play, and for the again boycott vs muscle play for the chains boycotting Disney since before the Pandemie hit, for the shares Disney want in certain regions. It might be a mix of all For myself I can only say I wont pay $30 for PA, as here only 1-2 people of my household will even watch it, the 3rd person not having any interest into SH, Sci-Fi, horror nor Fantasy based movies. I see cinema still as an superior experience, that too is a reason I think $30 is whacko at best. But I also wont watch it in a cinema as long as not at least all members of my household are fully vaccinated AND ~ 80% of our population is vaccinated too. Also no massive hotspots active in neighboring countries, see ~ high traffic based on working here, no active hotspots in the typical for us vacation regions. And no strain not included into the given vaccines is trying to ‚visit‘ us. And that is pretty much how all of my friends are planning to handle it, but I am aware about some people will handle it in another way. Means in case of BW I will probably wait till its either free at Disney+ I’ll or buy it as disc, or digitally eg at itunes after a while
  14. ads for me (do not have a YT account) Since a short-ish time (a week or so) even ads within the few Marvel Entertainment clips I clicked on, that was a big surprise, as the ads were not for Marvel (nor Disney in general) material, and why would Marvel allow any distraction from their promotion?
  15. Disagree to the fullest: 1. a pilot like Breaking Bad is not the same as the first episode of established characters. Its not even the same as eg the pilot of NCIS LA to NCIS, as those new characters too were not established characters. (picked as NCIS annoys me for not allowing the characters to actually grow) As such the ‚hook‘ is not needed to get eg interested into learning the details / motifs... of the characters. 2. its not even a normal TV-series, its the first part of a 6-parter after several movies with those characters being part of, and will not end like the usual TV-series neither, its a step in between, something to give the characters, the world-building of the whole of the MCU time to go into a bit more of the depth of the characters, to allow for the actual development - and changes based on experiences / impacting events - of said characters. 3. and that again is a difference to the average TV-series, it not only allows for change, it wants the change of the characters, its not bound to the TV-series formula too many series seem to not be willing to shake of to not endanger the success of the series. I consider the MCU mini-series as a kind of act 2 of the characters, the pre-appearances in the movies (not one was the lead, got enough time...) as act one, the next appearances after the mini-series (probably) as act 3.
  16. IMDb sorted their mess in the casting list of the first episode, now the not appearing in episode 1 are out, and the 30 named in the casting list in the credits actors are all in (and one more)
  17. Sometimes I am forgetting how optimistic young people can be The US kicked out of the country someone who grew up in the US, never knew anything else, is a highly decorated Seal, a hero,... but as he was in the country illegally per his parents, that didn’t count, despite lots of colleagues trying to speak up for him. People of color getting no loan or to worse conditions is still a daily occurrence. An example, black owned long existing stores, companies,... did get in part no emergency loans see COVID, white owners with less good finances, less long standings in the same region did get them. There was additional reason the banks should have given those, including administrative guarantees. Same counts for PPP loans, the condition given for them were worded in a way it wont reach more of the colored owners, than the white owners for eg employees counts and so on, Home buyers: https://www.forbes.com/sites/alyyale/2018/05/07/mortgage-loan-denials-more-common-with-minorities-new-report-shows/ (I guess @Cap can give more actual numbers about that) There are literally thousands of examples yo find in the Internet
  18. 42.x minutes w/o credits (not sure if to include the titles at the beginning?) not listed at IMDb actors out of the featured cast names list Character’s name not listed at IMDb ot of the featured names list and @Cap ‘s ‘most beloved’ character (sarcastic) is played by Beside that, IMDb’s cast list for episode 1 seems to be a bit strange
  19. new subs vs holding on to existing subs, I think for a part of the MCU interested its important to give them movies too, not everyone into MCU watches tv-series too or all of them. I feel like there are so. many details worldwide to consider, its probably way more complex as even we here, who are at least to a degree aware about eg the size worldwide... will guess
