  1. There were 3 Black Orchids who preceded the Latina one and all of them were white or a plant hybrid. Most people who are aware of the character think of the one from the Neil Gaiman miniseries in the 80's, which Rachel McAdams (a Caucasian actress) was campaigning to be made into a star vehicle for herself. Zatanna and her father OTOH are Italian but it's not verified which part of Italy their family hails from so they were well could be POC. So I don't understand how portraying Zatanna as Latina is insulting while Black Orchid is fine. Does it come down to just establishing the character as Latina or having Latin heritage in the comics? That seems like an incredibly, incredibly trivial factor to draw such a big line over.
  2. The lifesaver that I am will provide options to help you figure that out. Hellblazers sounds like a: 1.) Porn website 2.) Swedish strip club 3.) Vintage blue film 4.) Aging biker gang 5.) All of the above
  3. Agreed. Zatanna's race is irrelevant but she's a more prominent character than Black Orchid so it would be neat if a Latina actress nabbed the role. And Antonio Banderas should play her dad.
  4. I think Swamp Thing is a lock, especially since he is placed here with Zatanna and Constantine in SDCC's clear reveal of the DCEU intro logo line-up (Edit: Though now that I look at the enlarged version, it looks more like The Spectre. I just assumed it was ST due to the green and because they placed Poison Ivy right in front of him) You can see Doctor Fate near the far left as well. As for Latino superhero representation, there have been year long talk that Eiza Gonzalez is a frontrunner to play Zatanna based on the tweets from her official account and the fact that Geoff Johns is following her. She teased being on the WB lot a couple of days ago as well.
  5. That's how I remember it too. Most of the 90's blockbusters like JP, ID, TS1 and TLK gained larger awareness after they were released and became WOM monsters. However, I was already aware of the early 00's blockbusters like TPM, PotA, HP and FotR before their release thanks to their aggressive marketing. HPatSS marketing in particular was monstrous for a previously non-established cinematic franchise. The casting of the three lead kids received a lot of media attention, and that was the reason a lot of kids (me included) who weren't into the books before caught up with them before the movie came out so that we could be a part of what everybody else was talking about. I still remember seeing this pic in the newspaper. People were behaving like they were the modern day King Arthurs chosen by none other than destiny itself
  6. Throw in Lois and the other kids in Billy's orphanage and that could work like a 90's children's classic! There's some great potential here if DC plays its cards just right.
  7. Golden Army had a surprisingly strong opening. What did it in was opening just a week before TDK. If the budget is low enough and they go for a more classic horror vibe, this could make bank.
  8. I think some of it has to do with bad timing with the movie coming so soon after the Showtime miniseries Guerrilla, which weirdly diminished the contributions of black women to its subject matter- black empowerment movements in the UK in the 70's. The producers and creators of that show, as well as Freida Pinto who played the female lead, received a lot of criticism in media and in real life. As ban10 said, with a blanket title like "Detroit" and through the earlier promos, people got the impression that this was tackling issues of racism and police brutality in 60's Detroit as a whole, so it seemed like another case of erasing black women from a part of their own history. The decision to name it Detroit instead of something specific to the incident like Algiers was deliberately done to strike a broader chord, so Ellison and co. should have been prepared for the critiques that would come with that decision.
  9. Or if Han Solo disappoints in its summer slot next year. Its performance could be what Disney is hinging its decision over when it comes to SW9's release date. Anyway, I wouldn't be surprised if WB is deliberately forcing Disney to play its hand early here. The Valentine's Day date in 2020 has also been reserved for a DCEU project, a slot that could be equally perfect for WW2, so it has that to fall back on. If SW9 moves to December, it frees up Memorial Day Weekend or the first weekend of June 2019 for another DCEU film (one of Batgirl, Batman and SS2 IMO). The sooner the move is announced, the better to snatch up the vacated date. So... win-win? Your turn, House of Mouse.
  10. Elsa perfectly coexisted with Katniss in what was known as the Song of Ice and (Catching) Fire of Holiday Season 2013 So yeah, I actually think both of these films could help each other in some ways. Ep. 9 is the only wildcard here but if it moves to December, I'd be cool with Wondy opening in Spring or Summer 2020.
  11. What kind of a movie is this? Comedy aimed at kids? Comedy aimed at adults? Feminist existential crisis drama where Barbie gains hyperawareness and realizes she's just an object in the hands of people with more power?
  12. I highly doubt Episode IX is staying in summer, especially if Han Solo underperforms next year (which I think it will).
  13. She identifies as LGBT too. That interview was a hundred times more interesting than the trailer lol. So cool that Jordana Brewster bought her that Wonder Woman coffee table book.
