  1. one with landau on the avatar sequels and one about the cirque show: not much news but something
  2. Well I can sort of see the 5 quadrant thing. There is that demographic that almost never goes to see movies in the theatre. My sister is that example, she thinks movies are a waste of money and time, actors are overpaid, blah blah blah. She doesn't watch movies at home much either, they just don't hold her attention. It is not enough of a social activity, so she prefers live theatre and concerts. She has seen exactly three movies in the theater in her lifetime (she is in her late 30s). The first was the Hand That Rocks the Cradle, where she basically decided that movies are not for her. And the 2nd and 3rd movies she went to a movie theatre for were, yep Titanic and Avatar. And she is not a rabid James Cameron fan either, she is aware of Terminator but she's never seen Terminator or Aliens films. Her reasons for seeing Titanic and Avatar were that they look like they are worth her money and sitting in a theatre for so long.
  3. It just depends on where you look. If you are looking for geek fandom, I don't think Avatar is that type of film. It's audience is more general movie goer. If you say movie with blue people, people get what you mean. Cirque du soleil is doing a show inspired by avatar, I wouldn't say it has zero cultural impact. https://www.cirquedusoleil.com/toruk
  4. I'm loving this show! Lots of great momen's this ep, seeing daddy Cole and little Cole, a young Dr Jones wow she looks great, her interaction with cassie was funny. And Jennifer Goines' scene is the best insane boardroom takeover scene ever. I'm guessing the mysterious group at the end will be for next season. Can't wait for the last episode!
  5. This, IMO liability is really the only thing stopping Sony and theatres from not giving in. Reality is there are sue-happy opportunists out there that are maybe crazy enough to create an incident at a theatre. Doesn't matter which studio, they would have all done the same. Look at Paramount pulling Team America.
  6. This is one of my favorite keanu stories... skip to the 1 minute mark of... it's of Octavia Spencer on the Tonight Show retelling her story of meeting Keanu (it was the first time she came to LA, first celebrity she met when she was a nobody) Ever since that day, she goes to see all of Keanu's movies and on opening weekend.
  7. I don't think it'll be one film divided into 3. Awhile back Cameron said that they would be self-contained stories to avoid the Matrix sequel pitfalls. I assume it'll play more like a saga, following different characters on different worlds but within a shared universe. Probably why each film will have different co-writers.
  8. The songs been on the Billboard Hot 100 airplay at #1 for a couple of weeks now. Should be a great stocking stuffer. Maybe the only #1s this film is getting.
  9. Weird. My grandpa wants to see this , and he never goes to movies. So I guess I'm seeing this after all. Well at least I'm not paying and I'm definitely only going once.
  10. I don't think it's gonna happen. Neither Corona nor Dark horizons have updated their lotr page in awhile. Sad, was looking forward to it.
  11. We already saw from Speed 2: Cruise Contol this summer, boats aren't exciting. Especially big boats. This will bomb worst than Speed 2. At least that had action.
  12. 1. This is the End 2. Star Trek 2 3. Man of Steel 4. Pac Rim 5. White House Down 6. Thor: The Dark World 7. Noah 8. Hobbit:DOS Not necessarily anticipated but interested in these (just need to see more first): Elysium, Gravity, Wolf of Wall Street, Now You See Me, Ronin
  13. Solid film but too reverential to the Terminator films without getting the key emotional element of what makes T2 brilliant and iconic. Looper basically takes the T2 plot to explore nature vs nuture. Instead of terminator vs terminator, we have looper vs looper. The "protector" terminator/looper bonds with a boy, who is bound for some to be determined greatness, good or evil (John Connor/Cid). The protector terminator/looper develops humanity due to the boy's love and influence and sacrifices himself in the end for the boy. Where Looper misses though and where T2 was just spot on, was taking the time to develop John Connor himself and his relationship with the T-800, making T2's ending with Connor begging the T-800 not to go and Arnie's line "I know now why you cry" have more emotional realism and weight. In Looper, I don't know Cid, I feel like I barely know or like young Joe. I called the ending before it happened but I cared more for Bruce Willis and his dead wife. I like the director though, from what I've seen on breaking bad and this film is a step in the right direction. Watching Looper I got the same feeling I got when watching Abrahm's Super-8 (though I loved Super-8 a tad more), their influences are as clear as day so I can't help but root for them. Looper is not quite up to my expectations for great sci-fi but I definitely want to see more from the director.
  14. That's the point, TDK is formulaic and Skyfall made it even more apparent.
  15. Both TDK and Fight Club are overrated. When I saw Skyfall, it made TDK even more overrated, same plot and characterizations. The first third of Fight Club is actually good but the last 2/3 is garbage.
  16. I just woke up to this news. This is horrible, what is wrong with people. WTF
  17. Early on, Cameron said that he wanted the films to have self-contained stories and not one film split into 2 or well 3 in this case. If that's still the case, this will be an impressive undertaking.
  18. Crap, I just learned of this now. She made the type of romantic movies that I wish there were more of. A lost art. RIP
  19. I loved this! in fact I rate them TASM > SM2 = SM1 > SM3All the characters and even more importantly their relationships are better developed, so I cared more than I did in previous films. This one just had alot more heart. And then on top of that, the action and webslinging in 3D was great, he actually moved like a real Spider-Man.
  20. Marvel's The Avengers $8,905,467 -21%That's My Boy $13,453,714
