Technically, I think Khiladi 786 was a hit and was produced by Himesh and he was the main hero (the trailers showed Akshay Kumar but the movie was Himesh's story). But yeah, this has to be a "Producers" like scam for sure.

True.  Aap Ka Suroor I think did decent at the time as well, except that I'm pretty sure was Taneja trying to funnel some money.  Budget's listed at 5 crore but there were reports that VT spent $10M on it when he was caught.

Sometimes I look at the release schedule and wonder who are financing half these movies. There are movies no one has ever heard of, and will never hear about ever again. Probably some rich NRI industrialists kid wants to act, so they get a quick half-baked project put together and get a tax writeoff.

Wouldn't surprise me at all knowing who I know.

MoS did 21 crore GROSS. That's equal to 15 crore NETT.

Deadpool will do over 15 crore NETT / 21 crore GROSS.

I understand that a confusion is natural, as these two reporting standards are used randomly by industry sources.

Actually, the first time most Indian were exposed to Star Wars was with the prequel trilogy (myself included), which was pretty mediocre. As such there is no nostalgia associated with it like there is in the west. Jurassic World or even The Mummy is a bigger brand here.

Exactly. In 1999 The Matrix and The Mummy were the most popular Hollywood films in India. The Mummy was a blockbuster, $4.46 million total!!! One of the biggest intl markets for mummy that year.

Hell now that I recall, even Mighty Joe Young was more popular than Star wars and did better at box office.
