TLJ not doing great in India. Star Wars just not a big franchise here and it will be killed by Tiger Zinda Hai next week. It’s in a close fight for top spot this week with a comedy which is in its second weekend, which means we are looking at 10-15 Crore Nett

Star Wars - The Last Jedi from Hollywood which has the best collections of all the films released this week but as this franchise has little value in India the collections are poor and no match for Fukrey in terms of occupancy. The collections could be a little higher than Fukrey Returns due to more metro shows and 3D pricing. Its not just recent Star Wars films which have not done well but even the originial films like Star Wars (1977) and The Empire Strikes Back (1980) were huge flops in India.

TLJ pretty much flopped

Fukrey Returns is a surprise hit

Fukrey had an excellent second Friday of 3.25 crore nett as it took its total to 52.75 crore nett apprx. The film is on a huge run and is a SUPER HIT.  The drop on the second Friday has turned out to be just 20% and they way the film is going in North its going to be a huge jump on Saturday. The film has alreday crossed the distribotor share of Hindi Medium which before Fukrey Returns was the biggest small film of the year and there is plenty of gas in the tank left yet. The busines of Fukrey Returns till date is as follows.

lmao. Some folks here were saying 2 years ago that the old star wARS movies actually were popular in india at the time of release. But even boxoffice trade sites say that they were huge flops. Star wars is considered tenth rate franchise in India. I remember star warS had a re-release in 1996. They had tie-ins with lays chips. Only I seemed interested in it. My first star wars experience was Return of the Jedi in Mayfair theatre of Hazrat Ganj lucknow. The only theatre in entire city that played all three original star wars films for 2 weeks each I believe. The owner was a huge hollywood buff. Now that theatre has closed down. How times fly.

Iir around/after the prequels Fox even went on to do a Hindi rip off tv series on Star Plus.

I only came to knew about Star Wars coz of the neat looking Clone Wars show on Cartoon Network.

The old classics barely aired on indian tv and even when they did sometimes , it was the prequels.

The numbers are finally in, and TLJ will probably be lucky to get to around 12-14 Crore by the end of its run. That is less than what CBMs do in their first 2 days

Star Wars - The Last Jedi Falters In India

Star Wars - The Last Jedi may have set the box office on fire in its domestic market and is on course to be the highest grosser of 2017 in US / Canada and most other territories but India is totally a different story. The film could not do much over the weekend and the collections fell badly on Monday.  The daily business of Star Wars - the Last Jedi is as follows.

Friday - 2,00,00,000

Saturday - 2,75,00,000

Sunday - 3,00,00,000

Monday - 75,00,000

TOTAL - 8,50,00,000

Pretty bad drop on Monday, will lose screens and showtimes this weekend when Tiger Zinda Hai takes over the multiplex.

The Salman Khan OD audience showed up, now to see if it can sustain as reviews are not great unlike Dangal

Tiger Zinda Hai Looking At Non Holiday Opening Record

Tiger Zinda Hai is heading for a non holiday opening day record for the Hindi film industry not including Bahubali - The Conclusion which came from the Telegu film industry. The opening looks set to finish a huge 35 crore nett as per early estimates with collections outside metros being extraordinary considering it is not a holiday. Dhoom 3 holds the record at the moment for the highest non holiday record at 32.48 crore nett and it looks to be beaten by around 10% though the GROSS figures between Dhoom 3 and Tiger Zinda Hai will be similar. Dangal last year grossed 29.16 crore nett which was also a non holiday release.

Tiger Zinda Hai did really well over the extended weekend: http://www.boxofficeindia.com/report-details.php?articleid=3524

Tiger Zinda Hai is looking at collections of 39-40 crore nett as per early estimates but can come out higher if Mumbai holds as per other circuits like Delhi / UP, CI and CP Berar. Mumbai normally drops more on Monday than other circuits so that has been accounted for in the estimate but it is a holiday so hold can be better than expected. The record Monday is 40.25 crore nett of Bahubali - The Conclusion while for an outright Hindi release it is 29.64 crore nett of Krrish 3 which has been smashed out of the park. It is the comparison with Krrish 3 which actually shows how big this Monday is as no outright Hindi film has crossed 30 crore nett and Tiger Zinda Hai is flirting with 40 crore nett. .The weekend estimates are as follows.

Friday - 34,00,00,000 apprx

Saturday - 35,25,00,000 apprx

Sunday - 45,50,00,000 apprx

Monday  - 39,50,00,000 (early estimate)

Grand Total - 1,54,25,00,000 apprx

The sequel to a movie which made me question whether India should even be making any movies, let alone superhero ones is coming

Ha!  Can't wait.

Also Padmavat(i) rebounding well.  Anyone have any predictions with the original release date?  Seems like its holding up strong anyway (controversy may have actually boosted it here in the US).
