Never Back Down is a huge guilty pleasure of mine.... I kinda sort of love it. 

Agreed.  There's nothing wrong with liking a film like this (though pure MMA fans do see it as somewhat of a disgrace to the profession) for perverse pleasure, I was just stating that it's not exactly a good indication of a director who's going to hit a quality franchise picture out of the park.

 

I can pop in Night at the Roxbury any time for a laugh, but if you were to announce that John Fortenberry would helm the next Batman film, I'd have severe reservations.

It wasnt as good as kickass but damnit I had a good time. Chloe is awesome as usual. I only had a problem with the little romance between kickass and hit girl. It just came out of nowhere and was very awkward. 4/5

I thought the romance felt awkward. Not to mention she is 16 and he is 23.

One of the few things in the movie that I felt worked.  

 

It wasn't a full on romance.  It was her discovering she had feelings for him.  They kissed, that is all.  

 

I'm pretty sure there's only 3 years difference between the characters.

Its really not that awkward, they kiss for like 3 seconds and she leaves forever. They were never meant to be together. It was more like a strong friendship and a guy she could be her self around. It was a cute moment I thought. 

 

Also in the movie he is a Senior and she is a freshman, so its not disgusting.

Finally saw it; apart from the high-school sequence, an ok film that should have been a bit uglier/dirtier when the shit hit the fan. Considering the theme and serious tone, I thought it was pretty tame.

It lacks much of the style, heart and charm of the original while only leaving us the brutal violence.
