druv10
And what is needed for CF to have the smallest 2nd weekend drop for a film that opened over 120 million? 78.6M would give it smaller drop than TA. lilmac
And what is needed for CF to have the smallest 2nd weekend drop for a film that opened over 120 million? It's not going to "beat" TA's 50.3% drop but to answer your question, it needs to exceed $78.563million 1 - .503 = .497 (that's what you multiply by..not .503) .497 X 158,074,286 = $78.563 million Example: Take a film that grosses $10 million in its OW and drops 80% in its 2nd weekend. In order to estimate that 2nd weekend gross you multiply $10 x (1-0.8) = $10 x 0.2 = $2 million (horrible drop! ) Edited November 30, 2013 by lilmac
druv10
Saturday Update: Lionsgate reports this morning that The Hunger Games: Catching Fire earned another $31.25 million on Black Friday, up 110 percent from its Thanksgiving Day haul. That brings the sequel up to a $253.2 million domestic haul through 8 days of release, 33 percent ahead of the pace of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part I. BoxOffice projects Catching Fire will bring in $75 million for its sophomore weekend as part of a record $110.7 million five-day Thanksgiving window (topping 2001's Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone which grossed $82.39 million). Frozen is successfully capturing an audience that has been underserved in recent weeks: families, once again proving that female-leaning films can succeed even in a competitive marketplace. Stellar reviews have been driving buzz for the film, and early word of mouth appears quite strong with 91 percent Flixster users approving of or still anticipating seeing the film. BoxOffice is projecting a $67 million 3-day weekend gross forFrozen, making for a stellar 5-day debut of $93.3 million. http://www.boxoffice.com/latest-news/2013-11-28-north-america-the-hunger-games-catching-fire-and-frozen-both-on-pace-for-record-breaking-thanksgiving-weekend-performances Insane weekend for top 2. Records falling left and right.
Robertron
Not if you're outside the top 2. Underwhelming after Frozen and Katniss...I know. There's enough win between the Top 2 to make up for that.

Cmasterclay
This time last weekend the panic was palpable. Now, it's a celebration. I suppose CF's weekend numbers were just altered by the shift in release date.
iceroll
So CF will end this weekend with a 50m lead on THG, and a weekend that's 20m higher. I think beating THG is a lock now.

druv10
Is 400m possible for cf, if not what is 400M is locked. I've it finishing between 415-420M with outside shot at 450M, if it really holds well.
Cmasterclay
Is 400m possible for cf, if not what is It's essentially made the same through two weekends as TDK. It obviously won't do 533 million, but it's not doing 130 million less, either. So yea, 400 is happening

I've it finishing between 415-420M with outside shot at 450M, if it really holds well.My one concern is beating THG so that stupid $400m sequel rule can finally be put to rest.
