Hernan Gonzalez
The problems with the Union change the release schedule this month. The Expendables 3 was delayed 1 week. Yesterday a local movie had the 4th best OD for 2014 (the best non holiday Thursday). It's a thriller called "Relatos Salvajes" (something like "Wild Tales"). Produced by Pedro Almodovar and distributed by Warner. It sold almost 50k tickets and it is expected to easily passed 1m admissions to become the best local movie for 2014. Critics and WOM are really good. Let's see where it ends.GotG and HTTYD2 are the only movies in the Top Ten that are dropping less than 50%
Hernan Gonzalez
Screendaily "Warner’s Argentine pic Relatos Salvajes (Wild Tales), which played in competition in Cannes, started its rollout this weekend in Argentina, Uruguay, Chile and Peru. The Damián Szifrón-helmed pic grossed $2.45M from 438,507 admissions in those markets. It’s produced by Pedro Almodovar and was acquired by Sony Pictures Classics at the festival. The darkly comic film launched on 288 screens in Argentina, dominating the market with a 57% share and exceeding the No. 2 film by almost 500%. With $2.3M, it had the highest all-time opening weekend for an Argentinian production beating previous record holder Metegol (Underdogs). It also marked the highest opening weekend for the industry in 2014, and the highest all time WB opening weekend – outperforming the starts of all of the Harry Potter and Hobbit movies. In Uruguay, it was No. 1 with 56% of the Top 10 and had the all-time best opening weekend for an Argentinian movie in the market. In Chile, it was the 3rd highest opening for an Argentinian film. Warner also has the movie in Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, Panama, Venezuela, Spain and France."
