Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy

(147 points, 4 votes)

Ron Burgundy is the top-rated anchorman in San Diego in the '70s. When feminism marches into the newsroom in the form of ambitious newswoman Veronica Corningstone, Ron is willing to play along at first-as long as Veronica stays in her place, covering cat fashion shows, cooking, and other "female" interests. But when Veronica refuses to settle for being eye candy and steps behind the news desk, it's more than a battle between two perfectly coiffed anchor-persons... it's war.

TomatoMeter - 66%

IMDb - 7.3

Metacritic - 63

Box Office - 85m DOM / 95m WW

Why Critics Think It's Overrated

"Ostensibly modeled on the egomaniacal Ted Baxter of the old Mary Tyler Moore TV series, this adventure's protagonist is less comical, less endearing, and generally grates on the nerves." - Kam Williams, Princeton Town Topics

"Misses a golden opportunity by crossing the line that separates parody from stupidity." - Tony Medley, tonymedley.com

Why Box Office Analysts Think It's Overrated -

"It's alright, but I prefer some of Ferrell's other efforts like Talladega Nights and Step Brothers. I won't deny the film is funny, and at times downright hilarious (especially when they meet another news crew), but there just seemed to be something lacking compared to TN and SB." - Schumancer FTW

"watched it for the first time, it's like TITE, really good cast with some inspired moments, but the dramatic part is boring and some jokes are forced (most of the jokes actually)." - Goffe Rises

Fun Fact - "According to Mr. Burgundy himself, Ron's full name is Ronald Joseph Aaron Burgundy."

lol at Return of the King getting on here with just 4 votes.

Bad scoring system is bad scoring system.

It simply means that the people who voted for Return of the King put it high on their list.  It's also because there wasn't much universal agreeance on any film so it made more room for passion votes to rank higher up. (Like I mentioned earlier, I received 20 lists, and no movie managed to get even 10 individual votes)

Also, here is the number 2 for 2013

Man of Steel

<ahttp://ia.media-imdb.com/images/M/MV5BMjI5OTYzNjI0Ml5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwMzM1NDA1OQ@@._V1_SY317_CR1,0,214,317_.jpg' alt='Posted Image' class='bbc_img' />

Now for overall number 4

#4

Inception

(149 points, 6 votes)

<ahttp://ia.media-imdb.com/images/M/MV5BMjAxMzY3NjcxNF5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwNTI5OTM0Mw@@._V1_SX214_.jpg' alt='Posted Image' class='bbc_img' />

Dom Cobb is a skilled thief, the absolute best in the dangerous art of extraction, stealing valuable secrets from deep within the subconscious during the dream state, when the mind is at its most vulnerable. Cobb's rare ability has made him a coveted player in this treacherous new world of corporate espionage, but it has also made him an international fugitive and cost him everything he has ever loved. Now Cobb is being offered a chance at redemption. One last job could give him his life back but only if he can accomplish the impossible-inception. Instead of the perfect heist, Cobb and his team of specialists have to pull off the reverse: their task is not to steal an idea but to plant one. If they succeed, it could be the perfect crime. But no amount of careful planning or expertise can prepare the team for the dangerous enemy that seems to predict their every move. An enemy that only Cobb could have seen coming

TomatoMeter - 86%

IMDb - 8.8

Metacritic - 74

Box Office - 292m DOM / 825m WW

Why Critics Think It's Overrated -

"Only someone who never saw (or appreciated) Dark City would be able to call it visionary." - Rob Humanick, Projection Booth

"Pretty good, not bad, but brilliant it surely ain't." - Rick Groen, Globe and Mail

Why Box Office Analysts Think It's Overrated -

"I felt no emotional connection to any of the characters or to the movie. It isn't as clever as a lot of its fans think it is, the story and plot are easy to follow. The people I saw it with hated it, but it is technically a good film but it has no heart. " - Ariadne

"Inception did not once blow my mind or even render it stifled, WiR's plot twist was actually a little bit of a shocker. Ralph had better action scenes too.

1 for Ralph, 0 Inception" - The Panda

Fun Fact - "When Cobb gave Ariadne the puzzle test, Ariadne's final solution was a diagram of King Minos' Labyrinth. Ariadne is the name of King Minos' daughter in the same mythology."

It simply means that the people who voted for Return of the King put it high on their list.

You gave a #1 ranking 50 points. You jacked up the point values for the highest-ranked films on a list far higher than you should have, which resulted in these weird results based on miniscule support. If 20 people send in lists, it's downright misleading for a film with only four mentions to be the 5th most overrated movie of the past 13 years. It was to allow people's top choices to be more weighted, I've seen it done before and it gives passion voters a chance to get their movie on the list, it slightly backfire with this list simply because the voters were scattered on what to vote for.  It's not like there were any films with mass support that failed to make it.

And now for the number 3, also for fun I'd like to see if people can guess #2 and #1, so I'll give a little bit of time to let a couple people guess (About 30-40 minutes)

#3

The Dark Knight

(191 Points, 6 Votes)

<ahttp://ia.media-imdb.com/images/M/MV5BMTMxNTMwODM0NF5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwODAyMTk2Mw@@._V1_SY317_CR0,0,214,317_.jpg' alt='Posted Image' class='bbc_img' />

Batman raises the stakes in his war on crime. With the help of Lieutenant Jim Gordon and District Attorney Harvey Dent, Batman sets out to dismantle the remaining criminal organizations that plague the city streets. The partnership proves to be effective, but they soon find themselves prey to a reign of chaos unleashed by a rising criminal mastermind known to the terrified citizens of Gotham as The Joker.

TomatoMeter - 94%

IMDb - 9.0

Metacritic - 82

Box Office - 533m DOM / 1.004b WW

Why Critics Think It's Overrated

"Flawed and overrated." - Adam Nayman, Reverse Shot

"Middling as a summer blockbuster, zero as art, and more than a bit alarming as a phenomenon" - Fernando F. Croce, CinePassion

Why Box Office Analysts Think It's Overrated

"Thank you for the perfect example. Nobody said that American Hustle's cast is bigger than the movie itself, but it's their performances that made an otherwise run in the mill film into an acclaimed award winner film. Same for TDK: it's good, but heavily overrated." - iJack

"Not to be a contrarian, but Hellboy 2 entertained me more. Dark Knight is all about Ledger. Without him, people would pick at this movie's flaws so much more than they do. " - RichWS

Fun Fact - "During the scene where the Joker crashes Bruce Wayne's party for Harvey, when he first appears in the elevator Alfred was meant to have some lines, however this was the first time Michael Caine had seen Heath Ledger with the Joker make up on, you can even see the shocked expression on his face as the Joker walks past him."

BOF treats The Dark Knight as the Second Coming.Of course it's very overrated.

I guess this is the one time I agree with the loonie Nolanites here.  TDK is GOD like.

BOF treats The Dark Knight as the Second Coming.Of course it's very overrated. Any movie treated with that much circle-jerking and BJs that isn't near-perfect is very overrated.

The Dark Knight is in my Top 15 Favourite Films of all Time and I still think it's pretty overrated on here.
