The two weekends just gone by compared with last year

So that's +59.9% and +105.1%, and this week which was +161.6%. So those are some really nice jumps. The weekend cumulative top 10 is ~+33% on last year and if 2022 can maintain that lead for the rest of the year we'll end up with about $800m total box office. Compared with 2014 (the lowest grossing billion dollar year), we're about 30% down. If that is maintained 2022 will end up around $750m. At the moment I would still say reaching a billion is unlikely, but it's not as out of reach as I first thought.

 

That said, the fourth quarter of this year looks pretty weak compared to 2021, I don't think the one-two-three-four-five punch of Eternals, Bond, Venom, Dune and Spider-Man is going to be repeated. Apart from Avatar, what is even coming out then?

If it can't make it to at least 13m for the four-day I'd be pretty disappointed.

Hmm. Those are some bad jumps. Wonder why.

 

Edit: Ok the previous updates were 2 days. So probably 13-14K WED pre-sales and 20-23K final. 

 

Also seems like only Event has that many sessions for WED. HOYTS has 290 shows for WED and 668 for THU. 

 

On personal check there are only 222 shows on WED in Eveny as well and 775 on THU. @Inceptionzq what are you getting wrong here?

WED seems 18-20k final i.e. A$350K. That would be A$1.3-1.4M ish.

 

THU probably 27-30K. A$2M ish

I think you're underestimating the ticket price there tbh. Gold Class tickets are over $40 each and VMax tickets are over $25. Hoyts is just as bad.

I think NWH Hoyts was $22 ish in a few theaters i tracked. I just took $20 randomly.

 

@Inceptionzq what's the latest you can check. I think the shows start around 6 hours from now i.e. 12AM. If you can do a check around 10PM (your time) may be.
