My projections were too conservative.

Now, after the 6th, they will be at about 9 M EU and 7 M EU respectively.

The first will go certainly above 17M EU (it has chances for 20s) while the second should make at least 13M EU (good chances for 15M EU).

Basically we could already have 2 titles that top Maleficient.

AS is out of this world! Today (Holiday) it should catch 8M EU (6 days). SAM is also excellent with 9,5M EU in 6 days. Both are poised to pass 15M EU.

AS is going to make at least 18M EU.

Considering only Hollywood movies: It could soon become:

- the most successful movie since Frozen (19,4M EU - Dec 2013); if it passes it, AS will become the most successful movie since Madagascar 3 (21,9 M EU - Aug 2012)

- the most successful live-action movie since Breaking Dawn P2 (18,7M EU - Nov 2012); if it passes it, AS will become the most successful live-action movie since Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows P2 (22,2M EU - Jul 2011)

- the most successful 2D live-action movie since Breaking Dawn P2 (18,7M EU - Nov 2012); if it passes it, AS will become the most successful 2D live-action movie since Sherlock Holmes (19,9M EU - Dec 2009)

- the most successful 2D "original" live-action movie  (I know Kyle actually existed and that there's a book, but barely noone knew who he  was here in Italy) since The Last Samurai (18,1M EU - Jan 2004); if it passes it, AS will become  the most successful 2D  "original" live-action movie ever.

However in the first 11 days of As run there were 6 sat/sun/holidays day. This could have inflated the numbers. To reach 18m it needs a 3m+ 3rd week and a 2m+ 4th week.( 2nd weekend drop is about 40%) Not impossible but hard. Edited by edroger

Why is american sniper doing so well here?

Yes, Eastwood is popular, but these numbers are equally really impressive.

IMHO a great trailer has attracted the people who loved Gran Torino (but didn't necessarily watched it at the cinema) and the people who like War movies
