Because while Sauron is powerful, he has almost no character. He's basically anonymous destruction. Mad Max on the other hand is the fucking legend.

 

As for Thor, again, we're using MCU Thor, not Norse mythology Thor. MCU Thor is powerful with some charisma, but Creasy is basically the template for the 21st-century badass.

No, being a badass is in huge part about personality and behavior. It's not about how strong you are or what damage you can do, it's about HOW you do it.

 

 

Sauron walks into a battlefield and just hammers away with a super-powered mace. It's strong and intimidating, but there's nothing beyond just repeating a whack-a-mole.

 

Mad Max knocks out a guy, handcuffs him to a tanker truck leaking gas near an open flame and interrogates him. Then he drops the guy a hacksaw to try and see if he can cut through his own foot in time to escape, while walking away from the inevitable explosion. It's dystopian Dirty Harry to the max.

 

 

Thor makes jokes and cracks about human things.
