Live from the red carpet in front of the Dolby Theatre on Hollywood and Highland, most stars have already arrived and are on the red carpet. 

 

Just a few moments ago, we talked to Guillermo del Toro who's film Mushishi has been touted, despite not getting a BP nomination, as the heavy favourite to pick up the most statues. He told us that he's quite nervous, but also very excited and honoured to be here. He hopes that his film does well, but wishes all of the competitors luck because they'd all be deserving winners. 

 

We also just spotted the cast of the Concert's End on the red carpet and it looks like they're causing quite the congestion. We were told from unnamed insiders that aren't allowed to publicly talk about the matter that due to the large size of the cast, not everyone was able to secure a ticket, causing much discontent amongst the cast. However, the main stars and the director do seem to be here.

 

Coming up after the commercial break, we'll have an exclusive backstage interview with Meryl Streep, the host, and Joel and Ethan Coen, the producers.

Inside the Dolby Theatre: 

 

The announcer goes: Welcome to the 8th annual Academy Awards, live from the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood and HIghland. And now, here is your host: Meryl Streep!

 

[rapturous applause, standing ovation for 3-4 minutes as Meryl Streep walks onto stage] 

 

 

Goddess Meryl: Now before anything happens, I'd just like to tell you guys how humbled I am to be on this stage. I never imagined that the Academy would give me the honour of hosting such a wonderful show. It has been a most wonderful year of movies (it's actually been 1 year to the day since the last oscars) and I am so happy to celebrate them with you all today. Remember, win or lose, everyone is already a winner; the films are really what make us all win.

 

I was going to engage in one of those introductory videos that always happens, but then I remembered that I am 65 and probably shouldn't do all of those stunts and what-not. So without further ado, here is our first presenter: Benedict Cumberbatch!

I didn't think they'd see me on such a roll?

For years I've played this crazy game,

Finally I'm free of any boooombs!

Benedict Cumberbatch walks onto the stage and is greeted by warm applause. 

 

Benny: Last year, it was my great honour to have been award a Supporting Voice Acting Oscar. It is wonderful that the Academy has now begun to celebrate and reward a line of work that has been so often ignored and degraded in the past. Tonight, I am here to present this very same award. The nominees for Voice Actor or Actress in a Supporting Role are:

Oh no. It's perfectly fine. I really don't have time to write something that brilliant and if someone else wants to, I'm all for it.
