A film of many strengths and not many weaknesses, but they do still exist. If the audience felt engaged with Hiccup and Toothless in the first movie then this one took that one further. I sort of wish the mother storyline had been kept a secret before it came out because I was apprehensive beforehand but I ended up enjoying that thoroughly. The main issue I have with it is that it almost tries to do too much and almost slips into self-indulgence with the amount of story arcs it opens up meaning none of them ever end feeling as fulfilled as they should have done. Also there's still way too many side characters you either still don't know the names of or just don't care about. The main and overriding positives are; it's all still incredible fun, the final act is genuinely exciting and the visuals and dragon animation in particular are STUNNING.

Majorly disappointed in this. Everything that happened in this movie was a cliche! It's like Dean DeBlois just decided to rip out pages from every superhero movie, Harry Potter movie or animated action movie from the past 15 years.

I got really sick of the hackneyed comic relief too.

Still lots of artistry here.

Um.....isn't that exactly what you said about Kung Fu Panda 3?

I mean, it's not like all the Dreamworks sequels didn't impress you or anything.

No, I didn't say Kung Fu Panda 3 was cliched. I think it's better than HTTYD2, btw.

Oh, ok. ^_^.

So, which next Dreamworks sequel are going to see next? Which ones you haven't seen yet? I'm curious.

I don't have any planned. I have no desire to see all of the Shrek movies.

Pretty sure I've seen all of the other ones.

You haven't seen any of the Shrek-movies?:jeb!: Wow. You're one of those first persons that aren't used to anything Shrek-related. Interesting.

What about the Madagascar-films?

I've seen the first two Shreks. Haven't seen the other two in full.

Yes, I've watched all 3 Madagascars.

1. Oh, ok. So you saw some Shrek movies.

2. What did you think of each film individually?

Shrek: Really funny movie. That's the best I can say about it.

Shrek 2: Just as good as the first.

Madagascar: Really no story there.

Madagascar 2: Kind of fun.

Madagascar 3: Kind of fun, with some beautiful eye candy sequences.

One of the best animation films ever with Dragons 1.

Absolutely gorgeous and spectacular to look at, emotion, great character arcs, fantastic world building, amazing music ( John Powell ), I can't find enough superlative to talk about this movie and the first one.

A+

I was just watching Cinema Sins and I was reminded of where that "Toothless is temporarily bad" cliche came from! The Iron Giant.

And on the topic of things that seemed stale, I didn't like the villain. Kind of seemed like Shen from Kung Fu Panda 2, but less scary.
