Some people are saying its really good but lacks the "Spielberg magic". It's hard to describe what it is, but you guys know what I'm talking about when I mention JP, ET, Private Ryan... Does bridge of spies have hints of that "magic"?

its not like he's made anything incredible or even great in that timeframe (except maybe War Horse which I haven't seen)

Speaks volumes about his resume that you can list films with “Spielberg magic" and leave Raiders and Jaws without mention.

Oh and did your ever get around to watching Schindler's List?

It is very handsomely made and overall a great addition to his oeuvre. It has some really strong moments and is just very well done. The script has a lot of finesse via The Coen Brothers, but a lot of uneven humor.

I don't know. The Spielberg sentimentality is certainly there, especially for the worst.

War Horse is weak and Lincoln is incredible so...

Haven't seen the movie yet but I love Thomas Newman's super Thomas Newman score.

I think the movie benefits from the Spielbergian moments. The story would probably be kind of a chore to watch without the whimsy or sentimentality

I thought this was terrific, probably my favorite SS since the 2002 two-fer of Minority Report and Catch Me If You Can. Enjoyed it tremendously. 

 

Also, Travod, were you at the 4:20 showing at AMC Georgetown?
