There are about 7 billion people on planet Earth.  If a movie makes roughly a billion dollars, with a ticket price averaging around 9 dollars or so, that means that it sold about 100 million tickets.  Some of those people saw it twice, so maybe we are talking about 60, 70, 80 million people on the planet seeing a Transformers sequel.  What percentage is 70 million people out of 7 billion people?

You realize that your argument is that every single movie is a cult movie, right?

So are films gonna increase a lot for Thurs?

DOFP betta pass that X3...

Let's see how it holds up over the holiday weekend.

I'm expecting a bad theater count loss. Especially after seeing that Tuesday number.

STID is pretty bad. It's a film that gets worse with subsequent viewings. All the great action sequences can't overcome the tired, derivative throwbacks. Plus the entire script is a mess, with layered twists that don't make sense, character motivations that aren't explained, and plot elements that undermine the entire worldbuilding when you give them consideration. It's sad how much potential they wasted. 2/5

Eh, I give it another star because I'm generous, I like the actors, and I like ST in general (though admittedly STID's not very Trekian).

EOT is losing almost a 1000 theaters this week...

a small random assortment of early theater counts,

looks like the new openers hurt EOT quite a bit, and I expect X-Men to have a big loss too

Hey, where is the moderator here?  Where is the warning for attacking people personally?  Telemachos?

How the heck did Earth To Echo get 3,230 theaters with an unknown cast and a third rate studio?

I think I gave it 3/5 when I first saw it, but the stupid in it is really glaring. I'm actually kinda pissed because I do like Trek and the cast quite a bit, and they dropped the fucking ball big time in the writing department.

What Kitik said wasn't very nice, but it wasn't over the top. If you have an issue or something PM'ing would be a better way of handling it, so it doesn't take up room on the thread :)

I think a couple years back I questioned the 4th of July being a real boost.

What's happening here, is we don't get a Tuesday increase, we get a Wednesday decrease, so we're really down week/week, then yes, a decent Thursday increase, but that makes a muted Friday increase and it goes back to normal on Saturday.

So, in effect, the 4th hurts holdovers...at least on this date most definitely. In other years, it just shifts around the grosses but I don't think it really helps like Christmas or Memorial Day.

I loved STID last year in the theatres. I rewatched it last week and I agree with you. The plot twists are especially stupid and come out of left field. When you're seeing it for the first time, and I was pumped since I was a fan of the first, you don't realize it, maybe because of excitement or the charm of the characters or Cumberbatch but yeah. The multiple twists with the head of Starfleet and Khan just devolves into bad writing instead of being actually well told storytelling. And now the douchebag Orci is directing...stick a fork in this reboot.

The only holdovers still playing at most theaters around me are Transformers, Think Like a Man Too, Jersey Boys, 22 Jump Street, How to Train Your Dragon 2, and Maleficent, so I'm not surprised that there are some really big theater losses happening.
