Wasn’t doing that.

The studio spending way, way too much money on it has nothing to do with it's $67m opening weekend be a very solid number. It is what it is and the reaction among the press on the Monday following its weekend reflected that sentiment.

This just happened 8 months ago - its more strange to see some apparently forgetting the sentiment of something so recent.

I ,too expect some big casting news before within a couple of weeks...they need t do something to get people's minds off the horrid bombing of the Flash, and that might be more improtant then making a big splash at Comic Con.

From a short-term PR perspective, that is important. Long term, they need to completely digest what caused The Flash to do so poorly and make any needed adjustments for Superman Legacy before stepping on the gas.

And yes, specifically, the clear application of the obvious lessons currently is that not only does the cast need to be capable of delivering solid performances, but they need to have some people that Gen Z AND WOMEN know and are actively rooting for to succeed. Twitter is not real life but it does play a role influencing broader media presentation of a concept.

Gunn's experience with Marvel, where they were able to largely cast no-names in the role and let the character/brand serve was the true anchor, will likely be insufficient with yet another Superman film in 2025. We know the film will probably unreasonable high expectations, as DC and particularly Superman tend too. If this is just a generic, albeit high quality, superhero film lead by people that are essentially unknowns, they are not properly positioning the film to realize its commercial potential whatsoever.

Jacob Elordi has all the talent and physical presence for the role, plus 13m Instagram followers (a number which will grow significantly if he is Superman) and a large female following. Common sense needs to prevail here.

That is dogmatic BS.

WHy shoul dnot they use casting that worked in the pervious DCU. It is actors playing a role. The GA gets that even if the fans don't,

I repeat, the carying over of Judi Dench as M when the 007 franchise did a total reboot worked fine.

So the only casting that worked happens to be the people Gunn worked with? Because that seems to be what it's amounting to at this point.

What a coincidence.

It’s painfully obvious by now that Gunn isn’t keeping Gal Gadot, especially with her recent comments, and it’s been apparent for quite a while now that Aquaman 2 will be Jason Momoa’s last time as that particular character, and that he’ll likely be Lobo in the DCU.

Let’s not beat around the bush here. Gunn has his own vision for his DCU, and it doesn’t involve anything from the previous universe, except for the projects that he was personally responsible for.

By the way, for all the people who say that the failure of The Flash is definitive proof that a reboot is the only way to go, there might be some truth to that, but the movie’s failure was partially self-inflicted. More people would’ve gone to see it on OW if it weren’t part of a dead universe. At this point, I’m almost convinced that Gunn announced Andy Muschietti for BatB last Thursday because he was aware of this.

I get the impression you are not Gunn's biggest fan.

interesting hypothetical:

You're in charge. Your job depends on the financial success of the film. Both films would receive an 80% on RT and similar audience score. James Gunn will write and direct the film. The film you choose will open on July 11th, 2025. Which do you choose?

1. Superman: Legacy with brand new cast, serve as launching point for new era of DC.

or

2. Henry Cavill's Superman vs. The Rock's Black Adam film, serve to reignite interest in DC and help allow studio to play out the Gadded, Momoa, and Cavill versions of their characters before eventually restarting.

Which one makes more money in July 2025?

1. Easily.

Imagining a scenario where aquaman 2 does well but they inexplicably pull him off the role to make a Lobo film is pretty funny.

That will not happen. If Aquaman 2 makes big bucks, they will keep him on as Aquaman, though I think he would be a good choice for Lobo.
