baumer
14) The Dark Knight Rises: Sure I like it more now. Sure it's not as annoying as it once was. But that doesn't mean it isn't one of the stupidest blockbusters ever made. I could go on about this but we have all discussed this before and you all know the points already. So I'll just leave it with this. But on a happy note, there is this, one of my favourite videos of all time:

baumer
lol Attacking films he likes?! Ok? There's a lot of films on here that are okay and that I like. That doesn't mean I understand the love for them. Silence of the Lambs, Full Metal Jacket and others are decent enough films, I just don't understand the love for them. I don't love TDKR, I can just tolerate it now.
Blankments
People get all riled up when you don't like what they like. This thread is a great study in human behavior. Now you all know this is Baumer's list and this is how HE feels about these movies. But yet and still we get pissed and want to fight with him because he put our favorite movies on his list. Bravo Baumer. Threads like this makes the forum fun. Richard Linklater to adapt this thread into an award-winning movie
baumer
13) Skyfall: How this made a billion dollars is almost as vexing as how Alice in Wonderland did. IMO, this film is a mess. First of all, after 623 Bonds, I think they have run out of ideas. In this one, there is the old plot device where there is a secret disc or flash drive or something that has the identity of every agent in the world. So naturally, this is the MacGuffin of film. But it's been done so many times before, even as recently as in trashy films like Taylor Lautner's Abduction and Steven Soderberg's Haywire. Then you have the Home Alone inspired finale of the film where the MI6 runs out of weapons and apparently can't call anyone for help, not even the police, so they rig a chalet full of booby traps so that the bad guys can turn into the Wet Bandits. And just when you think Bond is getting progressive by giving us a gay villain, they completely waste him by having him do absolutely nothing interesting throughout the whole film. Bond kisses him and that's supposed to make us applaud the film, but what about after that? What about the fights? What about some good way to kill him off? None of this happens. I think part of the reason this film managed to brainwash people is because of all of us loving M and Judi Dench. Her death allowed the film to cover up for a weak plot and plot holes galore. One tiny example, and this is just a microcosm of what is wrong with the film, is the opening scene where Bond is shot, falls off a train, falls about 100 feet, into a waterfall and then a few scenes later, he shows up with nary a scratch. No explanation, no flashback, nothing. Bond is apparently a member of Marvel now, or maybe a jedi. Not sure. baumer
12) There Will Be Blood: Or as it is known to some of us: There will Be Boredom. This film is a true aberration. It has one of the great performances of the last ten years and it is absolutely one of the most painful films to sit through because nothing happens until the drink your milk scene. If there was ever a film (well, there are many others of course) that paid critics to say they liked it, this is it. I don't believe for a second people really like this film. I think there is some Manchurian Candidate stuff going on here. You know, Raymond Shaw is the kindest, bravest, warmest, most wonderful human being I've ever known in my life. Well, that's the message that has been spread about There Will Be Blood. Or a variation of it. What we have here is a boring film with very little plot that moves at a snails pace. Every half hour or so, something mildly interesting happens. This is like the casinos blowing air into the room to keep people away, this way they keep gambling and losing money. Same with TWBB. baumer
I gave it a 9 out of 10. I do not hate it at all. I just didn't think it was the best picture of the year. From the best films of 2013 thread from last year: 25) 12 Years A Slave: I don't want to survive. I want to live. The film is very good and the acting is fantastic as well. For this film to be anything but powerful would be a shock. It's got a great cast and there are images in here that make you sick. White people enslaving black people is disgusting and if it doesn't make you mad or uneasy watching this film then you are not human or you are stuck in the 1840's. I give the film very high marks because it is well made and I thought everyone was great in it, including Pitt. Not sure why he is being centered out here as he has a pivotal role that perpetuates his essential freedom. I liked it very much when he was on screen and there is a scene he has with Fassbender that is really well done. As for the others Ejiofor is outstanding and he is obviously a shoe in for a nom, but imho, Hanks should win just based on pure greatness. I'd have no issue however if Ejiofor did as well. Fassbender is outstanding also, as is Cumberbatch, Dano, Giamatti and Sarah Paulson is deliciously evil as Fassbender's jealous and raging wife. The film is really well done I just don't think it should be called the best of the year. Side note: This is the third film collaboration for Fassbender and Pitt. This is the post where I showed that I liked 12YAS, it made my list last year as the 25th best film of the year. IT IS NOT ON THIS LIST AS ONE OF THE 25 BRAINWASHED FILMS. Here is the link to last years thread. This is just a terrible co-incidence that 12YAS was number 25 last year, that's where the confusion comes from. http://forums.boxofficetheory.com/index.php?/topic/13461-count-down-100-movies-from-2013-multiple-users-tele-page-20/page-7
