Under rated movies which were undermined by a more popular release

Deep impact was a better movie than Armageddon but was completely overshadowed by it 

 

the mummy is an extremely under rated movie which was undermined by the matrix which was released 2 weeks later 

 

any other examples of this ?

John Carter is also a pretty decent movie, that had terrible advertising, and an insane budget.

I don't know if this is the case, but PP2 was pretty much released in the shadow of MM, despite the fact that both movies are equally masterpieces

Antz. Came out around the same time as fellow competing animated bug movie A Bug's Life and didn't get nearly as much credit as it should have.

Shame the Rescuers sequel had to lose against Macaulay Culkin's biggest film to date.

 

While the first Rescuers has a total gross of $71M DOM.......Down Under has a gross of $27M DOM
