DussyMob
There are many great films that used color effectively like Sin City, Schindler's List, Double Jeopardy, Pleasantville, etc. But what are some films that used color and received the opposite reception from viewers and critics? egoplant
Because the film was an obnoxious assault of orange and blue contrast. It wasn't obnoxious, it appeals to the masses.
4815162342
It wasn't obnoxious, it appeals to the masses.Right, because if a lot of peope see something, it means that the film is doing it right. :rolleyes:Look up the epidemic of Orange/Blue Contrast in Modern Cinematography. Transformers 2 is one of the worst, if not the worst offender of its use.
Hatebox
Haywire had really drab, soporific colours. Which is odd since Soderberg is normally one for good looking films.
Dementeleus
Yeah, the Orange/Teal color-timing is waaay overdone, and pretty much every major film decides to go that route. In the future, you'll be able to peg a movie from the 2000s just from the damn color timing. Ironic that we now have tools that give filmmakers complete and precise control over every aspect of color, and the end result is a color palette reduced to two general tones. cookie
I think Hot Tub Time Machine takes the cake: OTOH Chevy Chase blends in well with the curtains. Edited February 14, 2012 by C00k13
pieman
South Pacific (1958) is the classic example of color gone wrong
pinocchio
What about all those color filter blockbuster movies from the last decade, like The Matrix, Batman and so on?
egoplant
There's a lot of color used in 90s films, that today just look really dated. Batman Forever and Batman & Robin come to mind.
acsc1312
I'd like to add one to using color EFFECTIVELY and that is A Single Man. Such a beautiful movie when it changes tints/colors to convey conflicting tones.
Robertron
Tron: Legacy and Transformers 2. Tron tried to be all glow-in-the-dark and shizz, but it just failed. It was always too dark and they just needed to go out and play in the sun - felt so sorry for the characters - Shoulda gone to Specsavers And TF2, well Transformers:Revenge of the Orange much?
