Oh yes I rememberAlso goes down to personality. Certain people never take the long term view of what they do or willing to do one act of self sacrifice..In the end they up old and depressed like Sterling.

You don't get to be a sleazebag just because your wife is "annoying", and anyway Trudy was always overly chipper and too concerned with appearances and Pete still married her, so... Pete feels mad that people don't love or even like him because his parents were cold fishes to him and he expects everyone else he comes across to compensate for that, no matter how he treats them. Roger is just as entitled in his own way, but he grew up in a loving home and as a result is totally secure in himself, and his charm masks a lot of the unpleasant aspects of his character. His daughter Margaret OTOH, totally got his whiny baby side but not any of his wittiness, so she just comes across as a petulant whiner whenever she pops up in the story. Too bad she's married because she and Pete are a lot alike.

In fact, most of the women on this show, save for Joan are annoying as hell. I've only warmed up to Peggy recently, and think they've done great things with her character.

I disliked Joan early during the first season because it seemed like she was being rude to Peggy just for the hell of it (which she was). But over time they've made Joan the most sympathetic character on the entire show. Granted, there aren't really any likeable characters. They're all extremely flawed people.

I loved what they did with her in season 4/season 5. Yes, she has a lot of flaws, but she seems to me the most grounded. She tells it like it is. I really hope she gets the Avon account and begins moving up in the company.
