Xillix
And to be clear I'm not like hoping Pokémon bombs, obviously @4815162342 put a lot of effort into it and plans sequels and I'm not here to be a grinch and say "rawr no sequel for you grrrrr" - I mean maybe it'll be huge in Asia, right?

I mean the last one did $30M in Japan. To be fair no one cares about the anime and more. The games are still popular af.
Hiccup23
Personally, I think Pokemon will make between 120-130M domestic. Solid number imo.
Xillix
BTW tangentially related fun fact - while I'm not into it anymore, I used to be a HUGE Pokémon fan. As a matter of fact, it was Pokémon Heroes (incidentally the last Poké-film to get a traditional US theatrical release, albeit a limited one) that effectively became the reason my parents finally bought me a DVD player. That was the tape in my old VCR when the machine finally kicked the bucket in the middle of the movie.
YM!
Always been at $140M-$160M for Pokémon and $250M-$280M for Gods. I can see the former breaking out a lot though. The latter can surprise too but the former gives a more WTF reaction.
Xillix
I make a post saying I don't hope Pokémon bombs - Numbers reacts with sadface. Is Pokémon a Producers-style scheme to defraud investors with an intentional flop? YOU BE THE JUDGE!
Hiccup23
I am getting a serious Suicide Squad feeling from War of Gods. Also could After Party pull a small Get Out? 15-20M opening weekend and then finish around 125-130M? It should play well throughout September and October. I see no reason why it would not. The Maid I can see pulling solid numbers as well. 25M opening weekend and then a 65-70M finish. I tend to be optimistic. Rorschach
The War of the Gods and Pokemon situation is similar to the Guardians of the Galaxy/TMNT reboot dominating August situation methinks.

Xillix
I am still amazed people liked The Maid as much as they did. The whole time I was re-watching the original and writing the treatment I was just thinking "oh well turns out this movie is shit, better just dump it after SCP II." Ezen Baklattan
I don’t think After Party will be that big tbh - it’s hardly a really appealing premise not a pleasant viewing experience. Freddy Zapper I can see opening small but having really good legs. It’s very much a crowd pleaser and reviews for it have been really strong. It does also have a bit of ties to Halloween. Closed Domain could hit $100m, but with reviews not as stellar as I hoped for, I’m not investing too much into this run. Blood and Fur 2, I just hope it can top the predecessor. Parvelli I doubt will do much, but It’ll for sure keep screens in January with hopeful oscar buzz.

cookie
August 3-5 ‘Gods’ Attain Box Office Glory “War of the Gods” blew onto the scene with a staggering $105 million opening, just shy of claiming the opening record from “Voltron: Defenders of the Universe”. It ultimately came down to the wire in estimates but Sunday ended up a tad below initial projections. Some analysts are even suggesting that the decision to open the film in limited IMAX release on Wednesday ultimately cost it the record, as it made $4.8 million from 99 sites before Friday. Still, this is a staggering success for Gold Crescent Pictures and with glowing reviews, an “A” cinemascore and no adult blockbuster competition for miles strong legs are to be expected, especially as audiences will want to revisit it in the dog days of August. All other movies fell in its wake, as to be expected with a massive new opener. Meanwhile, the similarly acclaimed “56 Days of Love” had a very strong opening in only four theaters. War of the Gods - $105,772,349 / $110,570,253 To the Moon - $10,166,921 (-42.1%) The Dark Victorian - $6,895,277 (-63.3%) Taking Names - $4,566,324 (-52.8%) The Mermaid - $4,510,681 (-45.1%) Paddles: The Video Game Story - $4,336,195 (-9.8%) Ultraman - $3,339,185 (-55.7%) The Odyssey: The Spoils of War - $2,278,156 (-54.4%) Lord of the Flies - $2,189,285 (-43.8%) The Film - $2,175,933 (-56.3%) 56 Days of Love - $421,722 Top 10 gross: $146,230,306 (+75.7%) August 10-12 ‘Pokémon’ Becomes True Box Office Champion They wanna be the very best Like no one ever was To catch ‘Voltron’ was their real test To beat it was their cause Starved families across the land Searching far and wide That Pokémon would be so grand That cannot be denied Pokémon Gotta catch em’ all (Ooh, believe me) A hundred and twenty-three Pokémon Oooh the record’s dead Now the holder must defend Pokémon Gotta catch em’ all (It’s all so true) The money is flowing through You’ll doubt me and I’ll teach you POOOKEEEMOOOOOON Gotta catch em’ all (gotta catch em’ all) Pokémon! Pokémon: The Journey Begins - $123,406,792 War of the Gods - $50,322,695 (-52.4%) To the Moon - $7,551,592 (-25.7%) The Dark Victorian - $2,671,088 (-61.3%) The Mermaid - $2,610,323 (-42.1%) Taking Names - $2,288,545 (-49.8%) Paddles: The Video Game Story - $2,099,434 (-51.6%) The Odyssey: The Spoils of War - $1,501,682 (-34.1%) Ultraman - $1,369,238 (-59.0%) Lord of the Flies - $1,355,962 (-38.1%) 56 Days of Love - $1,209,233 (+187.0%) Top 10 gross: $195,177,351 (+33.5%) August 17-19: ‘Pokémon’ Wins Again Despite Drop, Openers Fall Way Behind As the summer season closes out last week’s mega-opener “Pokémon: The Journey Begins” led a second time even if it faced a pretty severe drop. This shouldn’t be taken as an indication of what audiences thought of the film though, more that last weekend saw such a massive rush and the front loaded nature of the series made a large decline inevitable. Softer drops leading into Labor Day should help even things out. Horror movie “The Maid” had a decent opening at $17 million and the 2D animated movie “Anthem” exceeded low expectations with an opening at $11 million. While reviews were very mixed, there was audience curiosity in seeing just what the future of adult-oriented animation in the industry could look like, especially with a few larger scale ones scheduled in the coming years. “56 Days of Love” continued to expand to over 600 theaters and collected nearly $12 million. Pokémon: The Journey Begins - $40,144,772 (-67.5%) War of the Gods - $32,631,522 (-35.2%) The Maid - $17,336,593 56 Days of Love - $11,869,235 (+881.6%) Anthem - $11,082,652 To the Moon - $6,133,557 (-18.8%) The Mermaid - $1,789,434 (-31.5%) The Odyssey: The Spoils of War - $1,198,553 (-20.2%) Lord of the Flies - $1,175,439 (-13.3%) Paddles: The Video Game Story - $1,055,682 (-49.7%) Top 10 gross: $124,417,439 (-36.3%) August 24-26: ‘Gods’ Reclaim Status, ‘Party’ Busted A dark subject matter and late August release date made “After Party” a cold ticket for audiences, but those that saw it did appreciate it to an extent, giving it a “B” cinemascore. With no major release left as summer draws to a close “War of the Gods” took back the top spot from “Pokémon: The Journey Begins”. “Anthem” dropped severely due to mediocre word of mouth but “56 Days of Love” fared well in wide release. War of the Gods - $20,364,076 (-37.6%) Pokémon: The Journey Begins - $17,512,348 (-56.4%) 56 Days of Love - $15,664,283 (+32.0%) The Maid - $10,033,887 (-42.1%) After Party - $5,905,238 To the Moon - $4,233,325 (-31.0%) Anthem - $4,176,105 (-62.3%) The Mermaid - $1,015,796 (-43.2%) The Lord of the Flies - $966,424 (-17.8%) The Odyssey: The Spoils of War - $804,122 (-32.9%) Top 10 gross: $80,675,604 (-35.2%) August 31-September 2 (Labor Day Weekend) ‘Gods’ Rule Labor Day as Openers Underperform War of the Gods - $17,189,248 / $21,500,686 (-15.6% / +5.6%) Pokémon: The Journey Begins - $11,944,280 / $14,750,471 (-31.8% / -15.8%) Race Rage - $10,554,782 / $13,155,674 56 Days of Love - $9,774,581 / $12,022,681 (-37.6% / -23.2%) My Side of the Mountain - $9,332,684 / $11,499,336 The Maid - $8,117,338 / $10,119,685 (-19.1% / +0.9%) To the Moon - $5,003,965 / $6,334,682 (+18.2% / +49.6%) After Party - $2,688,703 / $3,255,066 (-54.5% / -44.9%) Anthem - $2,555,124 / $3,179,473 (-38.8% / -23.9%) Lord of the Flies - $2,197,323 / $2,766,494 (+127.4% / +186.3%) Top 10 gross: $79,358,028 / $98,584,248 (-1.6% / +22.2%) I grew tired of doing writeups which is why Labor day doesn't have any.
