Pokemon: Rise Of The Rockets

I’ve been a Pokémon nerd since I was 7, and loved the first and now I’m like is the second a Rise Of Lotor (better than the first) or a Spark: Homeward (good but not as much as the first) or a Truth Is (fun first, shitty sequel). It is the first one. The stakes are much higher, the action is great, and the main characters are still very much likeable and new additions in Janine and Erika stand out. Loving it.

One Piece: The Journey Begins 

This is Aesir Pictures first film and one that has major franchise hopes and an adaptation as well where some rise (Odyssey, Voltron, Spark) or fall (Chrono Trigger, Bionicle). I’ve read all the drafts of this and this is probably the best version. All and all, it’s a solid adaptation, definitely not the most memorable but simultaneously a fun ride with memorable action sequences and flows nicely with its 115 minute runtime. Luffy is a very likeable main character, Jim Carrey’s Buggy is a delightfully hammy villain as well as Captain Morgan, Usopp (who’s much better than the first draft) and Zorro have their moments. It still has some kinks; Sanji and Nami still fell a bit underutilized, the humor can at times fell a bit awkward but most of it works, and grammar still is a wee bit sloppy not to mention it could’ve done with a bit more depth. I look forward to the next installment.

Gloriously insane and totally hilarious, this star studded satire comedy really works, which is so rare nowadays. This and Blue and Gold will do wonders during February despite the Leviathan in the corner.
