Bambi: A Life in the Woods

Best Picture

Best Director - Ang Lee

Best Ensemble

Best Voice Actor/Actress in a Leading Role - Noah Jupe

Best Voice Actor/Actress in a Leading Role - Aidan Turner

Best Voice Actor/Actress in a Supporting Role - Daniel Craig

Best Voice Actor/Actress in a Supporting Role - Nicholas Hoult

Best Voice Actor/Actress in a Supporting Role - Rachel Weisz

Best Adpated Screenplay

Best Original Score - James Newton Howard and Nicholas Britell

(Description: The score is a marriage of sorts between the composers' works like The Village and If Beale Street Could Talk. Most of the film's themes focusing on the characters are done by Britell while the themes of the forest, the environment, and Him (basically all the external forces) are done by Howard. Most of the animals have their own instrument sections dedicated to them. For example, the deer are portrayed by string instruments (violin, viola, cello, bass). Smaller animals like the birds, Friend Hare, and Perri are portrayed through wind instruments (flute, clarinet). More threatening animals such as Digger and the dogs have themes accompanied by brass instruments. Man's theme is performed by both a brass section and an ominous male choir to bring out the sense of the spine-tingling fear that the animals feel when He is in their presence. In the beginning, the score is fairly bright and cheerful. As the film progresses along with Bambi growing up, however, much of that cheeriness is taken away and is replaced with something more somber, though it's always not completely downcast.

Spoiler

These two tracks resemble the type of tone that the music goes for. "The Gravel Road" theme I imagine being played when the seasons change from fall to winter. "Agape", one of the many great tracks of the Beale Street soundtrack, I imagine being a similar tone to Bambi and Faline's love theme.

The Epsilon Syndicate: Union of Thieves

Best Picture

Best Director (Drew Goddard)

Best Ensemble

Best Actress (Thomasin McKenzie)

Best Supporting Actress (Emily Blunt)

Best Supporting Actress (Letitia Wright)

Best Supporting Actor (Ryan Potter)

Best Original Screenplay

Best Original Song ("Make It Look Easy" by Panic! At The Disco ft. Janelle Monae)

Best Original Score (Michael Giacchino) - The film borrows greatly from typical scores of films from the 50s through 70s, but is a bit more akin to a Hitchcock movie than, say, James Bond or Giacchino's own for for The Incredibles. There's a mysterious but exciting energy brewing with drums, bass, and other different sounds. It's a bit less brass dominated then the aforementioned scores. Also, each character has their own motifs and dominant instrument. Nadine is driven by strings and woodwinds, having a bit more youthful naivete but willing to get intense as needed. Madame Y's driven by piano, classy but willing to lay down serious beat as needed. Antigone and Donatello, much like their more idiosyncratic personalities, are driven by a better variance, lead mainly by bass, but with other "hip" instruments, from a synth-like device when needed to even a funky 70s vibrado. During some of the more intense action set pieces, the strings tend to go rapidly, shrieking at certain places, while drums lead the way as well. Brass can sometimes come out at the more intense points, but something along that line strikes hard, especially when blood is shed. Ultimately, this score knows how to keep cool but get messy and intense.
