DreamWorks Animation has added two more feature toons to their 2021 slate... The Bad Guys on Sept. 17, based on Aaron Blabey’s bestselling Scholastic book series. 

 

The Bad Guys follows five notorious villains–Mr. Wolf, Mr. Snake, Mr. Piranha, Mr. Shark and Ms. Tarantula–who’ve spent a lifetime together pulling off big heists. The animated project is said to have a similar twist on the heist genre that Shrek did on fairy tales, and what Kung Fu Panda did for the kung fu genre. Pic marks the feature directorial debut of Pierre Pierfel, a DWA vet who came up through the ranks as the director of the award-winning short Bilby, and as an animator on the Kung Fu Panda franchise.

Etan Cohen (Tropic Thunder, Get Hard) and Hilary Winston (NBC’s Community and My Name is Earl) wrote the script. Damon Ross (co-producer, Nacho Libre) and Rebecca Huntley (co-producer Abominable, associate producer, The Boss Baby) will produce. EPs are Blabey, Cohen, Patrick Hughes and Jeff Berg. The Bad Guys spent 50 weeks on the New York Times Bestseller List counts 8 million copies sold worldwide.

I also like how the ransom note uses the fonts of various Dreamworks movies like Shrek, Kung Fu Panda, Spirit, Megamind, Madagascar and Kung Fu Panda and tv shows like Trollhunters and She-Ra.

I like how soft it looks. the movement reminds me Kind of like Spiderverse but they only slowed the animation down by like 0.00001.

I'm digging the art style and cast. 2022 looks like an interesting year for Animation.

This looks like fun. The jokes were pretty good, the animation looks great but the choice of music (Bad Guy) was too on the nose. It also kind of looks like a Megamind redux but who knows it may surprise.

I have no idea what the children's book series is like, but I exchanged emails with the director of this and we connected on linkedin once so I guess I have to look into this.

This movie is sitting on a shelf completely/near-finished and a prime March 11 date just opened up. Might be a good idea to avoid competition from Sonic 2 and FB3...
