filmlover
The High Note is getting mediocre reviews. Seems telling that everything that's gone the VOD route so far is either something that wouldn't have made much in theaters or just plain not very good. filmlover
Why is some found footage horror movie from 2011 starring a bunch of nobodies that no one's heard of (Megan is Missing) been so popular on Amazon the last few days? Curious where The High Note lands this weekend, they've been running ads for it literally non-stop on TV and even the reviews have improved from the initial wave. filmlover
If Disney were to just to give up on Mulan completely and send it to + after all the marketing money from back in March ended up going down the drain that would basically open the door for other studios to just do the same. A Quiet Place Part II was set to open a week before and was in the final run of its marketing when Paramount delayed it. Not to mention they'll likely find themselves on NATO's shit list after being one of the few studios giving them hope this year. That's all just one person's opinion though. Disney knows their revenue all around is gonna be impacted for the rest of the year and will just accept whatever results they get at this point.

Remember Disney has ~40% of the theatrical boxoffice, mess with Disney, NATO will be having hard time paying the rents. Coupled with Universal, they will be over half of the pie. MoffettNathanson seems relatively influential compared to most Wall Street companies though (iirc, they caused AT&T do some restructuring after they downgraded their shares and caused AT&T shares to drop late last year). If the founder of the company is saying this, it will be something Disney will consider. I have to say though, they seem very pessemistic about Disney parks. It's very unlikely Disney parks stay at 50% max capacity for the entirety of 2021. Probably 50% when a vaccine is approved this year and then 100% once it's mass distributed early next year. That a bit of an exaggeration at least as long Disney cannot (or is not ready) to buy theater they obviously do in normal time, otherwise why was Disney respecting the theatrical window, why Disney was not asking and getting 65% on all their release ? They are a necessary link between them and billions at the box office.

We'll see what happens. Luckily it wouldn't be too much of a loss if they had to delay it again (which will probably end up happening if Tenet is unable to open in July as well) since everyone knew about the movie before it was pushed. As I said in the Tenet thread, everyone is just gonna take it one day at a time these next few weeks.

WittyUsername
It would be pretty funny if Mulan misses out on getting released in theaters. Disney was obviously banking on that to be a big hit in China.

They'd probably just delay it to next year like most of this year's originally planned releases did if need be, especially with the potentially bad optics of their one remake with an all foreign cast being the one sent straight to VOD.

North Dakota is A Bugs Life while South Dakota is Antz, North Carolina is Armageddon while South is Deep Impact, Order of the Phoenix for Arizona, Flinstones Vegas for Nevada, Nutty Professor for DC (talking about Trump probably) and Dirty Grandpa for Delaware (talking about Biden) are the jokes I found.
