I naively hoped that Elemental's comeback would maybe put that discourse on the backburner. I don't think they need to cut anything as long as their movies still make money.

It... sort of did.

The important part is that Elemental quashed the narrative that Pixar is a dying brand and that audiences won't see original animation in theaters because of Disney+.

Furthermore, this should give Disney more incentive to let their movies have long healthy theatrical runs.

Looks like Elemental will be getting a decent-sized expansion this weekend, domestically. Let's hope it fares better than Mermaid did this past week lol (I'm sure it will).

Hope it could get to 155-160m with it.

I don't see why it would fare better than TLM?

My 2 local Regal theaters dropped TLM sing along and replaced it with Elemental for Labor Day weekend.

Maybe it just has better late legs than Little Mermaid. I'm curious how it will do. It seems to be back in a lot of major cinemas.

In fairness, people don’t know when it goes on the Plus unlike Mermaid.

TLM did double DOM as Elemental, had a sing along version as the re-expansion, and was announced on a much longer notice. There's really no reason for Elemental to magically finish at $160m like some are throwing around just because Disney is slapping a Labor Day re-expansion on it.

My 160m was a bit optimistic but I can see a decent sized jump as Pixar Labor Day rereleases have done well. Cars 3 for instant added around 3M upon Labor Day weekend onward for its gross and it did about the same as Elemental, Inside Out added about 8M. The question is how wide of an expansion is it. If it’s about the same as TLM and around 2000 TC, then yeah it won’t happen but 2800-2900 TC it’s plausible.

I don't think Elemental will finish at 160m dom but I do think the re-expansion will do better than the Little Mermaid's.
