That must have been the shittiest weekend for openers since I don't know when ... the big surprise being that depressing roadmovie-drama "Hin und weg" managed to be #1 among openers. Overall rather slow weekend with some highlights:

MazeRunner had a good drop.

QecqoafaBD got its third (or fourth [or fifth]) breath. Next stop: 3,5mil admissions!

Winterkartoffelknödel again with the best PTA (by far); in Austria where it's playing in more theaters (percentage-wise, of course) it was even #3 for the weekend.

13 N The Boxtrolls UPI $ 408.499 - 414.561 1

The good thing about this weekend were the drops (with very few exceptions).

Outlook for next weekend:

Again, no real hit-potential among openers. UK/German coproduction "Love, Rosie" might take the weekend crown with overall moderate numbers while "Inbetweeners 2" seems slated for a disappointment. "Pride" could get a high PTA on its few screens, and nobody's expexcting much from kiddie-CGI "Der kleine Medicus" or NewZealand export "What We Do in the Shadows". So, with the exception of "Love, Rosie" it's this weekend all over again - expect nice holds from those movies that held well in the above list!

Do you think "Die Mannschaft" can hurt Interstellar's run in Germany?

"Sommermärchen" had over 4 Mio tickets sold, after all.

Insidekino predicts "only" 1M admissions for Die Mannschaft but 2M for Interstellar.

I think it depends very much on their WOM how successful they finally are. I for example didn't like Sommermärchen so much because it showed too few scenes of the fans and to me it was a little bit boring. The scene I remember the best is where some of the german players played billard... And it' almost Winter here, if that documentary still fits, I don't know. But that's of course only my opinion.

And I don't think that Die Mannschaft will hurt Interstellar because it's absolutely not the same type of film, somebody who wants to see Interstellar will see Interstellar. ;)

As the weekend before, the openers were a disappointment; especially "Pride" from which I expected a high PTA. Otherwise good and very good holds; "Annabelle" even with an increase thanks to Halloween. "Winterkartoffelknödel" again with the best PTA.

13 N Der kleine Medicus Senator $ 315.714 - 364.905 1

Weak openings, good holds on a low level. I'm quite a bit impressed by "Maze Runner", it openend not that high but holds much better than your average YA movie, in fact better than nearly everything else on the roster.

Outlook for next weekend:

It's spacefarin' time! "Interstellar" starts in 650 theaters, as wide as possible and will of course breathe some life back into the November market. All other new releases are below 200 theaters, and this week's top two movies will get hit hard  - so it will be a very one-sided weekend.

First weekend trend for Germany:

#1: of course, Interstellar - 425k admissions inc. previews, a bit less than hoped for. It will finish behind GotG with this opening (unless it grows some wondrous legs).

everything else below 100k, #2 and #3 close between Maze Runner and Love, Rosie with 90k each.

I really wonder whether the negative effect of "Die Mannschaft" may not be bigger than we might think on "Interstellar"''s second week.

Going to see "Interstellar" tonight with some friends, but the bigger part of our group (those who usually do not go to the cinema more than once a month or so) decided to go watch "Die Mannschaft" next week and "Interstellar" "some other time". Anecodtal evidence, of course, but I heard that from other people, too.

You could be right. Perhaps I underestimated Die Mannschaft because I saw almost no advertising for it and Interstellar has so much.

Interstellar had "only" 60k visitors yesterday, that means it has to increase a lot over the weekend. And then it needs a very good WOM to have a good hold.

Edit: It did increase a lot with estimated over 100k admissions on Friday  ;).

2nd weekend trend:

#1: Interstellar - 400k admissions (incl. previews)

#2/3: MazeRunner (-30%) and Love, Rosie (-5%) with 100k each

#4: Gone Girl  - 70k (-25%)

#5: close between WKK and Eq with 60k each (WKK -25%, Eq -30%)

That's, frankly, not a very promising start for Interstellar, as next week's "Die Mannschaft" will need a lot of screens.

That is a very good drop for TMR. :D What do you see as a final number (adm/USD)?
