IndustriousAngel
FF7 has now nearly as many admissions as FF6 had in its entire run.

PBMC2 opened to less than half the numbers of part one - ugh. BEMH2 is a lot behind part 1, too. Famils stuff saw steep drops with the notable exception of FF4 which is crawling and crawling - some weeks ago I wrote that it'll be the first in the franchise to miss the million but now it's getting closer and closer! And "Honig im Kopf" dropped out of the top 10, well, we're in week 16 by now so still very good! Next weekend: French comedy "Une heure de tranquillité", the latest Neeson actioner "Run All Night", and "Top Five" … not the most attractive lineup, it's a safe bet FF7 will stay on top before Avengers2 strike the weekend after.

IndustriousAngel
trend for Germany's weekend: #1: FF7 - 375k admissions #2: PBMC2 - 100k #3:Der Nanny- 95k #4 and best opener: Run all Night, 90k.
Fullbuster
I know comicbook movies are not huge in Germany but what can we hope for TA2? TA1 grossed less in Germany than in France, clearly less so I sense there is some room to grow but on the other hand the fall of the euro makes this difficult. I think growing in US$ will be very difficult. In admissions I can see a slight increase, although I have to say there is not that much excitement among the young. Maybe the MCU movies begin to overstay their welcome? Let's see ...
IndustriousAngel
btw, will be interesting to see if the haggle between Disney and theaters about new conditions can be settled swiftly enough - a lot of theaters threatened to boycot Avengers2 but I guess if there's so much money in play both sides will be interested in a quick solution. As of now, it's compeltely unsure how many shows A2 will get next weekend, so no presales either.

"Honig im Kopf" otoh is still in demand - week 17 and nearly made it into the top ten! FF7 is sensational but suffers steep drops and will drop some more Next weekend: Avengers 2 is hard to gauge. The MCU titles are having very different runs in Germany - Iron Man and Thor are well liked, and the first Avengers was a medium-sized hit, but others disappoint, and there's the distribution trouble still unresolved so I don't know how many shows A2 will get over the weekend. An opening in the 600k range seems like a safe bet, though, while FF7 will probably be the only other release with more than 100k admissions. Family stuff should see good holds thanks to no new competition. Two smaller releases try a little counter-programming: "Ex Machina" in a few select theaters, and "Big Eyes" which might attract some business thanks to Christoph Waltz.
IndustriousAngel
latest number from insidekino.de: AoU will start in about 500 theatres, that's not very wide bit wide enough that everyone can catch it this weekend - no sellout situations for MCU movies.
IndustriousAngel
Good news from Germany - AoU is after first estimates at 900k admissions for the weekend, 3rd highest opening of 2015 and by far the best of the MCU movies (A1 opened to 560k). FF7 trends towards 175k (-55%), all other movies below 100k.
Rsyu
Best MCU opening even with the distribution issues? Wow. That needs to be fixed ASAP. Edited April 24, 2015 by Rsyu
Fullbuster
That's fantastic It completely destroys The Avengers, comicbook movies are increasingly popular in Europe as I thought After better numbers in France and the Netherlands we also have better admission numbers in Germany, it's not that terrible after all. If there is a decrease in $ compared to TA1 it will be very limited, under 5%. At this point a small increase in $ is not out of the question.
IndustriousAngel
Well, I'm a bit sceptical if we'll see those 900k come Sunday but even 800k would be a surprisingly strong number, especially with less than 500 theatres playing it.
Superme
900K is good, there are 461 theatres merely, which is less than TA1(607)

I'm a bit sceptical, too. This would mean a massive multiplier over the weekend, but the movie looks big in the afternoon and the weather should help, too. I don't think the boycott will hurt that much, as smalltown theaters have a very small market share, even more for a big city movie like Avengers.
IndustriousAngel
Yep, the boycot won't hurt much, everyone that wants to see AoU has opportunities, the only effect is a few walk-ins less.

TalismanRing
Any reason why such massive jump in admissions for TA2, Germany is a developed market? Increased popularity of the brand. The UK's opening day is about 45% higher.
Fullbuster
Any reason why such massive jump in admissions for TA2, Germany is a developed market? Because the numbers were pretty low in the first place, and these movies are increasingly popular over the time so..
druv10
Increased popularity of the brand. The UK's opening day is about 45% higher. That's good news for TA2 as a whole in Europe. I thought it would drop from TA1 but with performance, it's looking at an increase from TA1 with crappy exchange rates.
