terrestrial
I think films mostly seen during the day have a higher chance as later in the evening, when the dropping temperatures will worsen the streets. News says fire-fighters, rescue people... had to do a LOT of actions in the evening. Unusual high number of broken bones.

Temperatures are not that bad, -20°C or a bit below here in Tyrol during nights, that's cold but we've had worse. I remember a winter in the 1980's when I got chilblain on my 8min walk to school (wearing sneakers, of course ...)

Aristis
Strange nobody wrote those numbers... Monday numbers are not too bad, some movies are up again! Passengers 450k (could probably become 1st Millionaire of 2016) RO 315k (-31%) 3,5M total Moana 270k -4% (crossed 1M, should be around 1,2M I think) Sing 210k -4% (between 1,8M and 1,9M) VgdB 190k -17% Demain tout commence 195k (maybe the 2nd Millionaire ) AC 170k -27% (with previews included it would be -64% but that wouldn't be fair, it's a good number ) It could be above 700k now. Really a great number I think! WbdH 110k -7% In its 10th week 3,5M should be no problem FB 90k -20% It's holding good, probably a good begin for the franchise Edited January 9, 2017 by Aristis

Fine openings for Passengers and Demain tout commence (look at that PTA - expansion here we come) and mostly soft drops or even increases! Rogue One had the hardest drop but that was to be expected with Passengers opening. Willkommen bei den Hartmanns is still in the Top10 after 10 weeks and is now at 3,3mil total - sweet! Next weekend: Ballerina; A Streetcat Named Bob; Hell or High Water; La La Land, Mr.Church, Why Him; and a possible new nr.1: The Great Wall. There's something there for nearly everyone and with strong holdovers, it will be an extremely crowded weekend, some of the new releases are bound to suffer from screen and/or audience shortage.
IndustriousAngel
for an opener that is supposed to lead the weekend, The Great Wall has few, very few bookings atm ... at my theater, Passengers has sold at least double the tickets for tomorrow. Even Demain tout commence has sold more tickets than The Great Wall - that does NOT look good. LaLaLand is doing fine in the few theaters it's got. If I go by my theater, The Great Wall will be lucky to make the Top3 ...
IndustriousAngel
Austria's December numbers are in so now we can take a look back at 2016: Despite the strong 4th quarter (which seems to continue with a good January) 2016 was one of the worst years in Austria's BO history, only 2014 was worse. No release made it to 600k admissions (the "Platinum Ticket") - a mark which was reached by five releases in 2015. Austrias "Golden Tickets" (>300.000 admissions) for 2016 were: 1. The Secret Life of Pets - 541k admissions 2. Finding Dory - 478k 3. Ice Age 5 - 441k 4. Zootopia - 397k 5. Rogue One - about 360k atm, still in release but won't reach Zootopia 6. The Revenant - 352k 7. Deadpool - 334k 8. Bad Moms - 316k 9. Fantastic Beasts - about 302k, still in release The list highlights Austria's appetite for family friendly CGI; Revenant's fine total is one of the few nice surprises from 2016 Edited January 12, 2017 by IndustriousAngel

Pypa94
What is the average visit per capita in cinema in Austria?
IndustriousAngel
31 minutes ago, Pypa94 said: What is the average visit per capita in cinema in Austria? About 1.8 (2014 1.7, 2015 1.9) - a little but not much higher than in Germany. But thanks to Austria's movie theater oversaturation, revenue genereated per seat is lower than in Germany. While a few theaters have closed during the last years, there's still too much capacity so we expect some further concentration. In 2005, there were still 173 movie theaters with more than 102.454 seats, in 2015 we were already down to 136 with 95.327 seats. (The number of screens has remained comparatively stable, meaning multiplexes have added some studio screens while one-screen theaters were shut down).

Thanks for your answer In our best year so far in Poland which was 2016 we had about 1.3. Comparing population we have 4.4 times more people Our 1st movie vs your 1st is 5.5x bigger (big hit here) But next movies aren't even close to 4.4 (less than 4) We have potential in Poland I guess. Well anyway thanks again for answer

el sid
Yesterday the temperatures were pretty normal for January but Sunday is predicted to be very cold in Germany and Austria and there could be some snowfalls over the weekend too. But the weather is at least not as annoying as last weekend. The Thursday estimates were not available yesterday but this are the Thursday actuals (source: Blickpunkt: Film):New Releases: The Great Wall: 21.5k (starts in 500 theaters, mostly modest and only sometimes good reviews) Why Him: 14k (367, mediocre reviews) Ballerina: 2.5k (335, ok reviews) – 60k OW projected in the first trend A Streetcat Named Bob: 5.5k (200, good reviews) – 55k OW projectedLa La Land: 19k (only 117 or 111 theaters, very good reviews) – 150k is very good for that few theaters, even better than expected! Hell or High Water: 1.5k (102, very good reviews) – 25k OW projected Die Hollars: ?k (102, mixed reviews) -12.5k OW projectedHoldovers (remember that last Friday was Epiphany and most states had school holidays so the Thursday numbers were of course better than usual and that's why this weekend's multiplier is so high): Passengers: 22.5k (90k) – unlike the last weekend it now often gets the biggest cinema halls (and not The Great Wall or RO) Rogue One: 15k (70k) Plötzlich Papa: 14k (35k) – it was shown in ca. 350 theaters during the week according to filmstarts.de so I guess that will also be the weekend-theaters number; would be an extension of nearly 150 theaters Edited January 13, 2017 by el sid
IndustriousAngel
Obvniously the many openers cannibalise each other ... if you subtract previews, R1 should stay #2 for the weekend. Very very good opening for LaLaLand, the PTA ist excellent - shame it didn't get more theaters

el sid
Bavaria. Here it is ok. But I heard about the storms in other regions. Problem is this will continue over the next weeks, I mean one or several regions always will be affected by snow storms, minus temperatures and so on. So I just hope the weather has no bigger influence than „normal“ for a winter weekend. Edited January 13, 2017 by el sid
