BO Germany/Austria: Inside Out 2 #1 with best 2024 OW

Recommended Posts

Sunday trend for Germany weekend (just a normal weekend here, no extra holidays!):DU: 800k (outstanding opening!)Schlussmacher: 375k (outstanding hold!)H1: 160kLoP: 140kWithout any definite numbers yet it's already clear that DU will become Tarantino's biggest hit yet in Germany (IB: 2,1mil admission, PulpF: 1,6mil). Very good holds for most films - all things considered a weekend to make theater-owners' hearts sing!

Many here expected a failure for Django overseas, but I'm happy to see they're wrong with these great numbers in Germany and a better-than-expected start in Russia. :)

Final weekend estimates Germany:DU 780k (820 total including wed)Schlussm.: 375k (should cross 1mil Monday)Hobbit1: 160k (crossed 6mil Saturday)LoP: 140kAnd the estimates from Austria:DU: 105kSchlussm.: 23kHobbit1: 10kSo, together with Switzerland, DU already is >1mil admissions in the german-speaking market!

Yep, at least Jan/Feb look very good. Though, apart from Hobbit2, in 2013 there are no real candidates for the double-golden-screen award (6mil admissions) and not that many for 3mil (the standard golden screen). On the other hand, who would have predicted that 2012's bestsellers would be "Intouchables" and "Skyfall", and that a swearing Teddybear would get a golden screen? So, 2013 will be a year for surprise breakouts again, I hope!

I wouldn't rule out Michael Bully Herbigs "Buddy" as a contender for 6m or more over christmas, and i wouldn't be surprised if "The Medicus" would do "Perfume"-numbers. Edited by Poseidon

That would of course be sweet frm the German POV, I'm keeping my fingers crossed. And maybe there'll come along something completely unexpected, maybe a crowdpleasing comedy again, say "I give it a year" or "Quartet". And as we've seen with Skyfall, even an old franchise can bust some serious block - so maybe higher than expected numbers from Man of Steel, IronMan3 or Thor2 or Star Trek 2!

8 4 Jack Reacher PPI/UPI $ 527.752 -61,8 5.939.965 3
9 8 Vampirschwestern Sony $ 465.351 -30,9 5.215.507 4

13 7 Skyfall Sony $ 304.290 -55,4 93.526.345 12

Django opened very strong (even better in Austria), and decent openings for Turkish lovestory "Celal ile Ceren" and "House at the End of the Street". "Schlussmacher" is showing excellent WOM (in Austria, only down 7%) and will fly past 20mil US$ combined, maybe even get to 25mil. Skyfall and Pitch Perfect finally dropped out of the Top10, but worst off was Jack Reacher which, after only a lukewarm opening and >50% drop in week 2 now dropped hard again.

This weekend, there are a lot of openings, but the Top2 should be safe. Opening are:

Flight, Lincoln, Gangster Squad, Frankenweenie, Movie43 and Quartet. Plus some oscar contenders get limited re-releases, Argo for example. So, next week's chart should look a lot different from this one!

With so many openers, cornering most demographic groups, the 4th 2013 weekend should continue the stronger-than-usual weekends we had this year, a very positive trend! (This weekend was already 10% stronger than the respective one from 2012 when Intouchables was in full drive)

1st weekend trend:DU: 725k (spectacular hold)Schlussmacher: 300k (see above)Flight: 150k - best opener, meh number nonthelessHobbit1: 100kLoP: 85kSo, as expected, the crowd of openers couldn't make much impact in the Top3; still I'm surprised only one of them cracked the Top5. At least Licoln and Gangster Squad I thought could do 100k; Movie43 didn't get any publicity and StopMotion disappoints every time in Germany; Quartet with its limited release will have to build WOM but similar films can develop super legs (Best Exotic Marigold Hotel managed a 7x multiplier last year).
