well , OD for Marvels and the 200k OW seems like a wet dream ... in fact, if this manages a 6-digit-OW at all it would surprise me. The time when every new MCU movie was bound to be at least a mid-sized hit are definitely over, this is deep within flop territory.

Overall a horrible weekend … The Marvels with one of the worst openings in MCU history, and steep drops all around. At least the Atatürk movie showed a healthy PTA as expected! Last year, Black Panther 2 opened to >400k on the same weekend … just sad how much worse the BO is atm.

In Austria, similar results - overall a little better but not by much. Once more, Pumuckl is doing much better here than in its home market.

Next weekend: Hopefully, a stronger weekend with the new Hunger Games movie - I don't know if anybody has been waiting for this prequel but presales look better than for The Marvels, it should hit 300-350k OW.

different markets have different expectations for drops (first of all because most don't have the US practice of rolling previews into friday)

For Marvels that is equivalent of 2nd weekend increase :-) I think Europe would ensure overseas number would look great relative to spectacular drop that domestic will have.

BP 2 had a 31.5 % drop on the same weekend last year. GotG 3 dropped 31 % earlier this year. Ant-Man 3 dropped 37 %. (Though Ant-Man, Guardians and BP all opened on a Wednesday - Taking some of the pressure of the weekend, The Marvels opened on a Thursday and "only" had previews on Wednesday - and with how big previews have gotten in the US etc- they pretty much became a full day meaning other countries have a 4 day OWend and then a 3 day 2nd Wend, leading to somewhat larger drops).

 

Though to be fair, Marvel movies have dropped close to 50 % in the past too (Endgame dropped 48 %), Infinity War dropped 56 %. 

So it's not great, but it honestly isn't awful either.

A better weekend thanks to the good opening of Hunger Games (even a bit higher than I expected) but overall still weak, with Marvels imploding after the already low OW. Family releases with good holds but from a low level.

In Austria, similar numbers, still with Pumuckl doing much better than in its home market (#2 by admissions in Austria).

Next weekend: One big opener, Ridely Scott's Napoleon. While I don't believe it will become a big hit, presales look ok and it might beat Hunger Games' 2nd weekend for #1. If it's spectacular enough, one million total should be possible (hey, a pretty dry Oppenheimer biopic just counted >4mil admissions this year, so Napoleon should be a blockbuster, but that's not how the BO works …)
