carlsalf38
I'm not sure if Netflix will really let theaters have their movies and local productions in a regular basis. Roma was obviously an important step due to all the awards coverage but will the next Adal Ramones movie be so important in order to fight about distribution or will it be forgotten in the: "Because you show Interest in Made in Mexico" List?? Yeah for Canacine for again showing the weekday numbers. Don't really know why they stopped but this is great actually. La Boda had a good star but I haven't heard good comments so I guess will not have a very good multiplier. Do you really think 70+Million is obtainable? I'm going with 55M. I don't know anyone that has liked the first Lego Movie. Some people find it inoffensive but haven't heard of someone really liking it and with so much Lego movies in the past years... I really was expecting this. 25Million will do for the first 4 days? I guess we will have to wait until Captain Marvel to see again a 100M+ Opening and probably 400+M Total? Awful for the Lego Movie sequel, just awful. Speaking of local remakes of beloved rom-coms of the US... 50 First Dates coming later this year. This and Best Friend's Wedding are the first of a long-term plan that looks to do the same for other titles not just here but in all of Latam. @salvador-232 @PanaMovie It could be interesting if they do theatrical releases of these remakes. It has been ages since the last time US comedies did well. At least here in Chile animated movies have totally replaced them when adults want to laugh

According to the article: " Why is Mexico a priority for Netflix? It is where the company first started producing non-English original programming when it expanded internationally to Latin America in 2011, and the country is the furthest along in the region with respect to production and viewership." They could cover both the cable viewership and the cinema goers - market is still huge - if they are smart enough. If not in Mexico at the beginning, in the rest of Latin America where Netflix subscriptions are not as prominent. I am very intrigued! 🤔

Wonder how they'll work on the distribution and if they'll just leave it up all to Netflix. 1 hour ago, carlsalf38 said: Do you really think 70+Million is obtainable? I'm going with 55M. As for Lego, I think it could go a bit higher but is really low anyway. 1 hour ago, carlsalf38 said: I guess we will have to wait until Captain Marvel to see again a 100M+ Opening and probably 400+M Total? Yup. It has everything to smash BO. It has no strong competition two weeks before it opens and has two weeks free after it opens. Wonder why nobody has taken advantage of it, especially April releases; looking at you Llorona and El Complot Mongol. 1 hour ago, salvador-232 said: It could be interesting if they do theatrical releases of these remakes. Fox would be another choice but since the merger is about to be completed I don't think they keep supporting local material in the region. Warner and Diamond are the other options. It's going to be interesting indeed. Also very curious to see the potential in Argentina where their local comedies do well. @Hei25 1 hour ago, Purple Minion said: They could cover both the cable viewership and the cinema goers - market is still huge - if they are smart enough. They are. I remember have read in Business Insider that Narcos and Narcos Mexico were a hit not just in the region but worldwide. Club de Cuervos is also very appealing to foreign audiences. Now only hope they can work with local talent yet to be recognized, it could be a huge opportunity, especially in times when both TV biggest chains are going through rough times to draw audiences. The highest WDAS isn't even the half of the third highest Pixar. Frozen wasn't an event like it was in the US. Unlike other movies like Ralph or Zootopia (a 4-quadrant) this appeals mostly a female younger audience. Too early to say anything. If you ask me now I'll tell you $15M-$17M. Although I do expect an increase but it could be minimal or explode ($20M+), also I'm not expecting the ER to be as good as it is now by the time it arrives. Purple Minion
Frozen is not in the Top 10 animated movies. Even Secret Life of Pets and Boss Baby have a higher gross in lc.
Purple Minion
$4.2M total for Alita, $2.9M weekend estimate. Not bad; 70% over Maze Runner. HTTYD3 now up to $17.4M, still biggest international market, and same in USD as Ralph 2. Glass is at $10.7M. Purple Minion
Ouch. Lego Movie 2 did just $1.5M opening at #4. Won't reach 100M lc which is bad for a big studio animated movie. In better news, La boda de mi mejor amigo had a $2.6M OW at #2. Great start of the year for local movies! Carlangonz
FEBRUARY 15-17 WEEKEND. ALITA GOES ALL THE WAY TO THE TOP IN A CROWDED WEEKEND. LOCAL REMAKE OF BEST FRIEND’S WEDDING CRASHES AFTER A PROMISING OPENING DAY. LEGO SEQUEL FALLS BELOW ITS PREDECESSOR. Alita: Battle Angel - 6.8% behind Ready Player One’s first four days and 36.9% ahead Ghost in the Shell’s first FSS frame. - It has no direct competition for almost three weeks before Captain Marvel arrives to theatres. Could reach $170M+, not a breakout but definitely a very good result. La Boda de Mi Mejor Amigo - Welp! This deflated after day one unlike Alita or Lego sequel and was more front-loaded than pretty much every local 4-day opener. Valentine’s Day definitely helped it. - It definitely won’t pass Mirreyes Contra Godínez and considering it was already front-loaded probably won’t reach last year’s weeding hit Boda de Valentina. LEGO Movie 2 - Only grossed half of both LEGO Batman and first LEGO openings. Definitely a huge decrease from those two. How To Train Your Dragon 3 - This Friday should top Madagascar 3 as the third biggest hit for Dreamworks. Mirreyes Contra Godínez - Already fifth highest grossing local title ever and is about to pass No Manches, Frida as fourth highest. # MOVIE WEEKEND % CHANGE TOTAL (MXN) TOTAL (USD) ADM. Carlangonz
February ended edging February 2018 with $910M+ which is lower compared to past february but it still shows strength for the bo despite not having a Black Panther type of monster like 2018. These good numbers are a combination of a diverse offer that is leaded by Dreamworks' hit How To Train Your Dragon 3 and local juggernaut Mirreyes Contra Godínez. Valentine's Day also helped with Alita and La Boda de Mi Mejor Amigo. Also, this year's Oscar competitors showed better mojo than in other recent editions so this year's nominees Green Book, The Favourite, Vice and Blackkklansman grossed nearly $100M all combined. First two months of the year have increased 4% over 2018's first two months and have sold nearly 30M admissions. March counts with two big titles that are looking to outgross the highest 2019 grosser to date (HTTYD3) and that are expected to gross $140M+ over their respective opening frames: Captain Marvel opening next friday and Dumbo opening on March 29th. Also put an eye to this weekend opener Happy Death Day 2U and upcoming local titles such as Como Novio de Pueblo and Las Niñas Bien.
