interiorgatordecorator
is there a reason why anime movies wait months after the initial Japanese release to come out in foreign countries? wonder if we'll ever see a concurrent global release for an anime movie Edited March 24, 2023 by interiorgatordecorator

Currently, Toho Overseas Strategy goes with three-six months gap between Japan &Any Overseas Market. If you ask why because Overseas Market have Piracy issues that affect earning in Japan. So, to avoid things that happen unexpectedly because of Distribution Violation in 1/2 regions that is gap. Secondly, Distribution Rights (Theatrical &Streaming) Often Valuations of Japanese Anime Film is determined by Domestic Performance whether it get release on those countries or not - $5M for Demon Slayer (China) &$1M for Jujutsu Kaisen (CIS) Thirdly, Marketing &Promotion - most difficult! Japanese Anime Film has two major Overseas Market - USA &China. China often value our products with WOM. &USA ahh that's a fanbase market. Arrangements & Planning within a limited budget is costly. Need lots of calculation Fourthly, Release Date - Damm do you think we will go head to head with Black Panther Wakanda Forever.. ahh never, Asia might be strong for Suzume but Rest Of World will be hellish negligible Fifth and not the least, we get time required to build WOM for Overseas Market from Domestic Performance It's not that Japan hadn't tried but back in 2021 Scarlet Bullet got simultaneous release in 22 countries! $40M WW OW

If you but the same movie in July in the USA, it would get steamrolled.
