I think, despite the reviews and positive WOM, neither JW nor DD are able to break beyond the base that was always intent on watching them. With Mario looking to take screens, DD in particular won't survive, I fear (JW can at least continue as counter-programming).

I didn't particularly love either of the two movies but was entertained by them and I definitely want to see more from DD. However, I can't see it doing much better than Shazam 2 all things considered.

The runtime is hurting JW4. Too exhausting for most people

Yeah, that's why some of the highest grossing movies of all time are around 3 hours long, if not more...

JW4 meh leg so far can only be explained by the fact the movie is way too male-skewed. No matter how good the WOM is, the goodwill just isn't spreading far beyond the core audience base, or at least have them interested. Deadline was saying 69% of the audience are male. This is a % that come a lot higher than chapter 3.

Even with good WOM D&D will struggle to break out past its fan base and the fact that Mario comes out tomorrow is just another nail in the coffin

GA also has another $5 "good movie" chance ALL this week (Wed to next Mon) if it wants to pass on full price Mario - Air.  While Air was looking at a single digit open last week, the last minute TMobile deal (which only had 1 week advertising vs the normal 2-3) will probably play a role this week, yet again.  I'm expecting more "Plane" effect than Creed 3 and JW4...but when you're talking low numbers, that effect looks huge...
