Good numbers for the two animated tentpoles. Still, D&W can't come soon enough; Dune Part 2 is still the biggest live action movie or the year so far. Not that that's a bad thing, but it just highlights how rough this summer has been for anything not animated.

Gotta have stuff released that could gross more than Dune 2 to have it even be a part of the convo. Hazards of the Strikes more than the summer being bad/rough.

Yep, agreed. That's kind of what I meant by rough.

Even with Deadpool, August looks pretty blah compared to last year and I don't think the strike is as easy to blame for that. On paper it's missing the presence of even a modest Mutant Mayhem kind of performer. Unless we have some really huge breakouts these next two months we could be losing a lot of ground on last year. If the industry survives until mid-September things can only go up from there at least.

No, the industry will die in early September.

According to rumors, theaters will start closing in August and there will be a wide shutdown just in time before Megalopolis opens.

Dude, 2026 is looking absolutely insane.

We could have 4 Billion movies just in Animated movies.

Toy Story 5, Shrek 5, Frozen 3, and what else?

Edit: Oh, Mario 2 is coming out that year as well; insane.

Remember when animated movies were the only place where you could see non-NTCs find success?

Saw DM4 over the weekend with family.  It was alright, exactly what you'd expect from one of these movies.  Fun for the kids, decent for adults.  I'm glad that it's not winning the summer animated crown over the clearly superior film, though :)

Nope.

Horror was always there, even during the period when the animated ones started flopping.

True that. You right you right. And even that is looking shaky when it comes to original stuff. Dark times are ahead of us.
