Thursday numbers (big jump for Avengers)

I think Disney, Paramount and Marvel have uncorked a lot of champagne already. In fact, I think they have a perma hangover from all the champagne popping.

Probably true :). They may be slightly less obsessed about milestones like $600M than we though. Will they drink any less champagne if it ends up at $599M?

You don't fudge and then drink champagne as though it were a real accomplishment :P

Actually, let me share with you an email I got from Mario Kassar on Facebook, when i asked him about fudging, it is most interesting:

A vexxing question came up last night when Paramount reported their "actuals" for Transfomers 2. Originally, they had a number of 16.5 million for the midnights, 60.5 mill for the first day and so on. Then, when they came up short on their quest for 200 million over the first five days, they claimed that the additional 1.1 million was from late Imax numbers and other US territories like Peurto Rico not reporting on time. My question to you as a producer is, do you buy this? Or do you think there is some creative accounting at work here? I personally don't care all too much, because I don't make a cent off of Transformers, but for someone as interested in the film business as I am, I do want to know how they can do this and if this is normal.

Any insite you have to the situation would be most helpful. Thank you so much for your time. I hope to hear from you.

All studios round up a bit their weekend box office...not too creative but it has been done like this for years. they are not really too far off of the announced number.....probably as close as possible to the reality.

in any case only they really know...unless u r close to theatre owners or u are another studio where they can track it thru rentrack...

u should not worry too much about it when a film hits 200 or 201 million in those few days,it is quite an accomplishement

    take care

So according to the producer of Terminator 2 and Rambo and many others, studios fudge all the time.

The Hunger Games is definitely NOT crawling to 400m. It's marching in and about to kick the door in.
