Rsyu
Now we wait for Roaring Currents 2 Actually Yi sun-sin had 3 major battles the; the battle of myoengnyang, battle of hansan and battle of noryang. With the success of roaring currents, there's already talk of creating a prequel and sequel from the other battles so we may see a roaring currents 2 soon enough. chimpo
So how expensive are those Korean movies?
Rsyu
So how expensive are those Korean movies? Including marketing costs the total budget for Roaring currents was around $17 million to $18 million. If a film's production+marketing budget exceeds 10 billion korean won (around $9 million) it's considered to be expensive. It might seem like a small budget but since Korean films have to make most or all their money in the Korean film market, it's actually quite a lot. Roaring currents is only now starting to make a profit after hitting 6 million admissions. This is largely due to the distribution of profits among various investment parties at the end of which, only about 35-40% of the total profits return to the studio. Kundo, despite being in the top 10 biggest hits of the year so far, is going to fail to make a profit by the end of it's run because of this. chimpo
Looks similar as with Polish movies. Upcoming blockbuster Miasto 44 has a budget of 25 million PLN ( $8.2 million ) and that's top 10 most expensive movies in last 25 years. And they pretty much only have local market and maybe some small release in UK ( they have big polish community there ). chasmmi
Coupled to that the DVD market in Korea is essentially Zero meaning a box office bomb will almost never save itself on home video. VOD has gone a little way to rectify this issue though it must be said.
