chasmmi
I don't understand how a movie can be doing what Roaring Currents is. Could it double the admissions record? It's never going to double it, but it could come close(ish) to the (unadjusted) ratio of how much Titanic broke the US record by.

Rsyu
Roaring currents is pretty much locked to beat avatar by Sunday at the latest and possibly as soon as Saturday. It needs an average 377,460 admissions daily over the next four days and considering yesterdays hold, it looks pretty much certain to happen. Tomorrow (Friday) is liberation day, a national holiday in Korea so admissions for all films will be largely inflated. New releases, most notably Sea Fog hit the old holdovers pretty hard. Kundo especially is no where to be seen in the top 10. The initial ratings for sea fog from naver isn't that good, just 7.73/10. The biggest demographic group for this film are females in their 20s. Average start for The fault in our stars, which only received 252 screens on it's opening day. It's rating is very high at the moment, 9.10/10 on Naver so it could have good legs, but the overall performance will still be pretty bad. Unsurprisingly the biggest Demo for TFIOS are teenage girls. Rsyu
Big hero 6 is going to be released on January, 2015 in SK. It's smart, they're going for a similar release frame to Frozen. Specific day is to be determined.

Rsyu
Nice recovery by Roaring currents today. It's similar to the tuesday number which is surprising since it has 300 screens less since then. The weak start by Sea Fog likely had something to do with it's recovery Great hold from The pirates. It increased from last week and has great word of mouth at the moment. I watched it the other day and while it's one of those films you forget a day after you watch it, it was still pretty funny and a great film for the younger generation. Sea Fog still has a sub- 8.0 score on Naver and with it's +19 and older restriction, it could struggle going forward. This weekend will be very important to spread some good word of mouth. Pretty decent start by Begin again, it should beat Once's score of 232,459 admissions Edited August 14, 2014 by Rsyu

Rsyu
$99m...That's crazy I hope The Avengers 2 will be able to reach that Since part of the film was shot in Korea and it has a Korean actress, I'd say it has a decent shot at 10 million admissions. But as you can see from the all time list, it's harder for foreign films to break out that big compared to local films.
Rsyu
Avatar took over half a year (theatrical run of 8 months) to overcome The Host as the most attended film in South Korea. It was a very leggy run. Sometime today Roaring Currents will become the most attended film after just 18 days of being released. Should be close to 14.5 million admissions at the end of this week. Summer holidays are coming to an end for many school students so numbers in general should see a decrease starting next week.

Rsyu
Rsyu, do you think TA:AoU can hit 100M?It probably won't. Assuming currency exchange rates stays around the same it would need around 13 million admissions (similar to roaring currents now) or maybe less depending on the 3D ratio to make $100 million. I can see 10 million admissions because IM3 hit 9 million with a similar release date but beyond that the weekdays won't be big enough I think to carry it. Most 10 million admission films (barring 2) were released during or just before winter/summer holidays too which shows the importance of big weekdays. If Hulk smashes the blue house though things could get interesting..
Rsyu
To reach $100 million AoU would need- very good word of mouth- decent competition. Having zero competition is as bad as having too many- high 3D/4D percentage- decent footage length of scenes shot in Korea.- screens and a lot of them. Having a major distribution chain distributing will help- favourable exchange ratesIt's going to be released at the start of a 7 day holiday so massive OW shouldn't be a problem.
