Mojoguy
is IO a flop in China?
KP1025
It's definitely a much weaker performance compared to animated films in recent years (although IO is an original film unlike the many more successful sequels).
keysersoze123
its a flop but not shocking. Pixar has not had a huge hit in China though TS3 and MU did ok for that time period. I guess FD next year will also do well for its time period( may be 50-70m). But pixar original flicks would find it difficult to break out. Biggest disappointment for IO is Japan where it had everything set for big success. Pixar brand in Japan is definitely weaker past few years. But globally Pixar brand is still great. Minus Frozen its by far the biggest non sequel CGI flick. So overall there is nothing to worry as long as Pixar continues to execute at very high level. MinaTakla
'Inside Out' Disappoints, 'Goodbye Mr. Loser' Stuns - CHINA BO REPORT Goodbye Mr. Loser (夏洛特烦恼) was the big winner at the Chinese box office this truncated weekend grossing $39.4 million from ~135,000 showtimes. Businesses and schools were in session nationwide on Saturday, making up a workday after last week's National Day Holiday. The comedy from Beijing theater troupe Kaixin Mahua has earned an outstanding $142.6 million after 12 days of release. Even more astonishing, Mr. Loser jumped 30% from last weekend thanks to incredible word of mouth that has spread like wildfire through social networking apps like WeChat. Debuting in fourth place, Pixar's Inside Out performed below already modest expectations, earning $4.1 million for a 6-day $12.4 million total. The film is tracking 38% behind Monsters University's 6-day start from two years ago and given the market expansion since then, especially in animation, Disney/Pixar must rethink its strategy to succeed in China. http://pro.boxoffice.com/statistics/news/2015-10-12-china-box-office-weekend-report-goodbye-mr-loser-stuns-inside-out-disappoints Edited October 14, 2015 by MinaTakla
