Lol, TF4's gross is just from another stratosphere.

It's one of the rare juggernaut in China, like Avatar and maybe the Avengers serie if TA2 took off the same way to a lesser extent of course.

Can someone post USD numbers for Friday and Sat please?

Friday is around 187.5m yuan including Thursday previews if I am not wrong.

187.5m yuan = around $30.1m USD

Sat is currently estimated to be around 224M yuan

224m yuan = around $36m USD

Friday: $30m

Saturday: estimated $36m

'Transformers: Age Of Extinction' Set To Shatter Records In China With Massive $90 Million+ Opening Weekend

http://www.boxoffice.com/latest-news/2014-06-28-transformers-age-of-extinction-set-to-shatter-records-in-china-with-massive-90-million-opening-weekend

Paramount's China outreach on behalf of Transformers: Age of Extinction is paying off in a huge way. Paramount tells BoxOffice that Age of Extinction posted a $30 million opening day (including Thursday previews), which, according to sources in China, puts it on pace for a record-setting $95 million opening weekend. This sets a new opening day record in China.

Not only would $95 million be the best opening for an American film--Iron Man 3 previously held the record with $64.5 million--but it also easily tops the performance of Journey to the West: Conquering the Demons, which took seven days to hit $92.5 million.

This marks a huge turning point for the Hollywood-China relationship. Age of Extinction could easily end up topping the current #1 film of all time in China: Avatar with $221.9 million.

Other studios will be tripping over themselves to mimic Paramount's successful approach. The notion that a huge tentpole like Age of Extinction can open above $90 million in North America and China at the same time is staggering. Welcome to the future.

More to come as the weekend progresses...

Anyone apart from me suspecting there's some hanky panky...possibly daylight robbery happening here with The Breakup Guru?

It benefited from TF4 soldouts. As I said pages ago:

Old distributing strategy from Enlight: IM3 vs So Young, Dad Where Are We Going vs Monkey King, TBG vs TF4. But they always succeed.

OW should be at or slightly over $95m

To put it into perspective:

After 2 days, TF4 surpasses EoT total

After 3 days, TF4 surpasses Godzilla/ASM2 total

After 5 days, TF4 surpasses CA2/DOFP total and becomes # foreign film 2014

After 9 days, TF4 becomes #  film 2014

After 10 days, TF4 surpasses TF3 total

After 15 days, TF4 should surpass Avatar total for all time #1

It will break every single record that occurs during the first three weeks of film release in China.

TA2 will be released on May 1st 2014 in US. It almost has zero chance to get a day and date China release. The max target for TA2 is around $200m (1.24B RMB). It may not even match TF3 (1.1B) if it gets a bad release date or has quality problem or anything.

TF4 should reach $250m with this opening. Cant see how TA2 matches TF4.

In fact, three years has passed since TF3 (2011), still no foreign/Hollywood film comes close to TF3 total except James Cameron and Transformers itself.

Despite 3~4 movies per year, better leave Marvel to Phase 4 (post-2020) to have a run with Transformers films in China.
