A local movie titled White Deer Plain may take lots of screens from holdovers...

Strange developments: White Deer Plain was delayed because of a fault with the digital master -- apparently the subtitles were unreadable. The premiere is still set for today, but the general release has been postponed. The revised master has supposedly been completed and may be in theaters by Sunday, which would still give the holdovers most of the weekend to themselves. It could well miss the weekend entirely. The latest Detective Conan movie (originally scheduled for the 25th) and the local film The Tree in the Rain (previously set for the 19th) have also reportedly been bumped out of September. There's still a few small titles coming out next week -- The Woman in Black, a couple of undistinguished-looking domestic films -- but the field will be slightly more open until the end of the month, when the big National Day releases hit. Maybe not really.

How big the chance that they suddenly find there was a problem in the subtitles just 3 days before release ? Rumor is that the version they are releasing is not exactly the same as what submitted to Sarft, aka they privately made some changes during post-production of the film. But who knows ...

Anyway, I still dont understand why these Chinese movies always need Chinese subtitles (or even English, WTF ?) in the theaters. It is not like we Chinese audience can not understand the Chinese movies without these subtitles.

Both of those posts you linked to are in a private group, so I can't read them. And frankly releasing a version of the film that didn't go through SARFT sounds like a kamikaze move -- it's not like they aren't going to find out eventually. Given that it's apparently possible in China to create and distribute a new DCP within a few days, it doesn't seem implausible that they rushed the first one and didn't notice the subtitle problem until it was too late.

All right, it's finally dated 15th after all:http://e.weibo.com/bailuyuan2010?ref=http%3A%2F%2Fs.weibo.com%2Fuser%2F%2525E7%252599%2525BD%2525E9%2525B9%2525BF%2525E5%25258E%25259F%2525E7%252594%2525B5%2525E5%2525BD%2525B1%3F%26topsug%3D1

Detective Conan movies are Japanese? Do they count under the Hollywood quota (like in former South Africa where Japanese were considered white)? In which language are they shown?

Yes, they are Japanese movies. And they (and other foreign movies from other countries: UK, France, Spain ...) are counted combined with a quote of 34. So actually well less than 30 revenue-shared Hollywood movies released in China each year. They usually shown in dubbed versions. Only big Hollywood movies have subtitled versions usually.
