MONDAY (11/19) Numbers - BD2 10.09M, Skyfall 4.01M, Lincoln 2.46M

Happy it's doing so well, but...

Thunderball UA $593,912,000 $63,595,658 1965

Not many on here are unaware that Bond hit his popularity peak in the mid 60s. Skyfall could have been 10x better than either Goldfinger or Thunderball and would still never come close to their adjusted grosses. Highest adjusted Bond since 1979 is Die Another Day(219m) and SF will blow by it. And it has a damn good chance of beating You Only Live Twice(285m) for third behind the only two Bond films to adjust over 300m(the aforementioned Goldfinger and Thunderball).

No doubt! As you say, it could still end up third adjusted which would be incredible.

Speaking of which...as I stated yesterday, Casino Royale opened on the weekend before Thanksgiving and made a rounded up 41m. Skyfall just made a rounded down 41m on its 2nd weekend, which also happens to be the weekend before Thanksgiving. So if SF were to follow CR's pattern from there it would make over 285m.

I love how Moonraker managed to be the biggest Bond not in the 60s for so long

That's because Moonraker was coming off the positive WOM from Spy Who Loved Me. Plus it came out after SW, which made the prospect of Bond going into space kind of intriguing before the release.

I know, but still, for nothing to beat it in all these years...

Which is why Thunderball made so much after Goldfinger and why You Only Live Twice made so much less after Thunderball. Thunderball was a good flick, but it was nowhere near as good as Goldfinger. Still find it interesting that, historically, after Bond went completely over the top with Sci-Fi and regardless of gross, the producers decided to get back to basics with the next film. YOLT to OHMSS, Moonraker to FYEO, Die Another Day to Casino Royale.

Thunderball is actually my favorite Connery Bond movie with Goldfinger second. The Spy Who Love Me is my favorite Moore movie.

Anyone else think Lincoln is increasing this weekend? No competition, wonderful WOM, and for some reason I can't think of a better movie to see over Thanksgiving. We could see an Argo-like run on a bigger scale.

Absolutely. It's expanding to 2,018 theaters tomorrow.

If Skyfall hits 6.2 that'd be bloody brilliant. 51% bump. Could be on track for 290-300 at this pace if it doesn't collapse. And between 18-23% bump for BD2, I was pretty close on this one.
