I wouldn't have thought she'd live in any case... and I could guess what the film was about even before it started, because, you know, it's not called "Mort". The opening scene didn't really affect my viewing positively or negatively, I just didn't understand why it needed to begin that way. I did groan, though, at the way AMOUR flashed on the screen immediately following the image of a decomposing body. How subtle.

Hindsight bias. Humans are surprisingly hopeful creatures.

Can't speak for other folks, of course. But I knew who Haneke was, and I saw how serious her condition was quickly getting throughout the film. Combine the two, and you might as well have expected the family in The Seventh Continent to change their minds in the end.

That standing ovation took forever to take place. People were surprisingly slow to get up onto their feets even after it hit critical mass....

If Riva was able to come to LA and campaign then I think she would've walked away with the win. Now it is going to be very close with maybe Lawrence with an edge (SAG win counts a lot).

Ughhhhh. Just hearing about Amour depresses me. I don't really think I need or want to watch that. What do I get out of watching somebody age to death and lose the ability to control their bladder? That's too depressing to think about. I hope I drop dead right before I get too old to take care of myself.

Riva will win. I get the sinking, sickening feeling that Life of Pi borefest will end up with the most win. It's locked to win 3 tech award and it might as well win Best Director, too.

^^^ I didn't know that. Did she participate in any Oscar relatd events ? I don't remember THR or Variety covering her LA visit.

 

She was at the LAFCA luncheon, the NYFCC luncheon, NBR luncheon. Then she did some behind the scenes campaigning, and elbow rubbing if I remember correctly.
