Do your expectations change if you see a movie at home for the first time?

Recommended Posts

I just watched the Total Recall remake. To be honest I didn't see it in theaters or bother to rent it because it didn't look that good or interesting but I caught it on Starz and while it's nowhere a great a movie I was entertained. Had I seen it in theaters I can't say for sure if I would have liked it.Now on the flip side I thought Battleship looked like garbage and when I watched it it was worse than I expected. And there have been highly praised films like the Master that left me with a "that's it" type of feeling. But what about everyone else does watching a movie at home change your expectations?

I think based on my mood, I have different feelings both at home and at a theater. So that doesn't matter much to me. But repeat viewings can, as movies usually go up or down in my estimation everytime, I see them again.

I go in with almost every movie with the expectation to be entertained-regardless of where, how, and when I watch it. There are a few movies where I tend to "hype" myself for but I like to go in with as much as an open mind as possible.
